Applications are invited from suitably qualified local candidates for the following vacant position tenable at the Ministry of Law and Justice.


DEPARTMENT: CRIMINAL

Job Title: Criminal Information Assistant (4 Positions)
Stations: Maseru, Mohale’s Hoek, Leribe
Responsible To: Crown Counsel


Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Crown Counsel, the incumbent will support prosecutors and legal teams by managing day-to-day administrative tasks and case-related details, helping to organize and process cases.


Main Duties

The officer is responsible for preparing legal documents, liaising with clients, and managing case files. Duties include:

  • Operating scanning equipment to convert paper documents into digital format.
  • Reviewing documents for quality control purposes, ensuring all pages are legible and in correct order.
  • Performing data entry of document metadata into the computer system.
  • Ensuring that all documents are filed, scanned, and stored in accordance with the department’s document control procedures.
  • Emailing/Distributing documents to the appropriate parties in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Adhering to privacy rules and maintaining confidentiality of sensitive/high-profile documents.
  • Maintaining up-to-date logs, including information about file changes or who has access.
  • Conducting routine verification to ensure integrity of the filing system.
  • Developing a register of all incoming and outgoing applications to facilitate systematic recording of all applications.
  • Coordinating formulation and implementation of sectional manual operational plans.
  • Conducting annual performance appraisals on individual supervisees to assess their performance against the set standards and to identify training and developmental needs.
  • Coordinating preparation and implementation of the sectional budget.
  • Ensuring secure destruction of original documents if required, following legal guidelines.

Job Specification

  • Diploma in Records Management / Human Resources Management / Information Technology / Business Management with three (3) years’ experience in the Office of the DPP or any courts of law.
    OR
  • In promotion of serving officers: COSC plus five (5) years’ experience of records management in the Office of the DPP or any courts of law.
