Job Purpose

To offer support service to the Business Bankers and Acquisition Bankers with the primary objective of preparing credit papers to grow the bank’s asset base and evaluating clients’ credit risks while also ensuring that credit risk is contained within acceptable parameters.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • Identifies credit and risk management requirements at the source of the deal negotiation/business proposal
  • Studies interview sheet or conducts credit evaluation interviews during deal negotiation to obtain sufficient and appropriate information to evaluate business risk and deal viability, from a credit risk perspective.
  • Declines non-viable deals at source, however works in partnership with the Line Manager and client to identify alternatives that could bring the deal/proposal within acceptable risk parameters relative to profitability.
  • Recommends appropriate facilities in line with risk evaluation. Presents and defends own judgement & senior credit evaluations to clients in a manner which does not negatively affect the business relationship.
  • Identifies cross sell opportunities
  • Identifies, quantifies and evaluates sources of risk in relation to profitability of business proposal and financial viability of corporation as a whole, interrogates information obtained to gain a thorough understanding of business parameters which create profit/value as well as the associated risks
  • Utilizes industry risk analysis available to identify and understand contextual threats to existing and potential clients.
  • Evaluates whether proposals meet sound business criteria and counterparty credit risk falls within acceptable parameters, and recommends appropriate business credit facilities including terms or conditions of facilities.
  • Prepares credit applications providing sound financial and business justification for deals/proposals within acceptable risk parameters relative to the profitability.
  • Ensures smooth disbursement of approved credit requests
  • Build relationship with Enterprise Direct Management to improve quality of business proposals and turnaround time on credit evaluations.
  • Shares joint credit responsibility for business written.
  • Ensure compliance of CPs, prior to disbursement of funds
  • Preparation of collateral docs, logging in of collateral documents, tracking of outstanding collateral, liaising with collateral department
  • Monitoring and ensuring compliance of ongoing conditions 
  • Effect disbursements
  • Ensuring preparation and verification of guarantees and presentation thereof upon cancellation of bonds
  • Liaise with valuation department for acquisition and signing off on valuation reports
  • Sales and disbursement tracking
  • Proactively drives review process of existing facilities, ensuring consistently thorough and timely evaluation of all existing facilities.
  • Detects and evaluates shifts or changes in key risk parameters in a business relationship or industry and evaluates the implications of such changes on continued business dealings.
  • Play a role in monitoring excesses. Establish reasons for risk exposure in excess of credit facilities, evaluates these in relation to business risk parameters. Monitors utilization in excess of credit facilities and assists Enterprise Direct Management in managing the risk exposure.

Preferred Qualification and Experience

  • Bcom Degree Accounting, Finance, Credit or equivalent
  • 2 to 3 years experience in Busines Banking and or Enterprise Direct

Knowledge/Technical Skills/Expertise

  1. Expert Segment and Group Company product/ service offerings
  2. Strategic planning models, principles and practices, including market segmentation models/ theory
  3. Understanding of business economics and the current business economic environment
  4. Financial Acumen: Financial Modelling capability, activity based costing, financial analysis (evaluating and identifying trends) and complex cash flow cycles (industry/ sector specific).
  5. Good knowledge of Business Banking transactional administration processes and procedures
  6. Experience as a Business Assistant to gain exposure to lending principles and customer servicing
