The incumbent will:

  • Coordinate the comprehensive research capacity development programme for postgraduate students that is offered from the Postgraduate School;
  • Organise appropriate, needs-driven research capacity development opportunities for postgraduate students;
  • Organise and coordinate research communication events, such as the UJ Visualise Your Thesis and 3-Minute Thesis Competitions and the Annual Postgraduate Conference;
  • Source and contract appropriate expertise for workshop and short course facilitation;
  • Use Blackboard for distance learning;
  • Liaise with faculties, support divisions, and other stakeholders to develop strategies and activities for enhancing the experiences of postgraduate students at UJ;
  • Engage in related communication and marketing, quality assurance, impact measurement, administrative and reporting activities.
  • Degree or any relevant qualification (NQF 7), with 2 to 3 years’ experience in administration of academic programmes or projects in a higher education institution;
  • Extensive experience in a coordination role in a higher education context;
  • Understanding of the demands of postgraduate study;
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate academic courses, programmes or processes.

Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:

  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office programmes;
  • Strong administrative skills
  • Excellent planning and organising skills;
  • Ability to manage time effectively, to work under pressure and to meet deadlines;
  • High-level written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently and to take initiative;
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills;

Recommendations:

  • A Master’s degree;
  • Experience of curriculum development or coordination of postgraduate programmes;
  • Experience with using online or distance learning programmes, digital technologies and social media.
