JOB Title: Coordinator Departmental Nursing Services
REPORTS TO: Nursing Services Manager

PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Coordinate and manage the nursing services to ensure quality patient care, as well as to provide administrative services for nursing department. The incumbent will be responsible for the management; of patient/client care; coordination of nursing services; development of nurses; supervision and nursing research.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  •  determine items for procurement that support nursing activities
  •  develop a budget estimates for timely submission to the following year
  •  discuss patient’s management plans with doctors to ensure quality patient care
  • draw and review the department’s objectives, protocols and guidelines
  •  disseminate the objectives, protocols and guidelines to all health professionals
  • appraise nursing officers for training and development requirements
  • check medical equipment to ascertain required quantities
  •  ensure proper storage, handling, safety and control of drugs and supplies
  •  visit health centers to evaluate performance in the delivery of care
  • evaluate department and health centers for recommendations, changes and improvement
  • harmonize nursing activities for appropriate care
  •  ensure proper skill mix for nurses for quality patient care
  •  harmonise training needs for compilation of nurses training plan
  •  liaise with departmental heads to ensure efficient health care delivery
  •  synchronize nursing protocols and policies on prevention of medico-legal hazards
  •  compile a comprehensive nurses work plan from all departments
  •  analyse departmental statistics for record, reporting and reference
  •  ensure implementation of nursing procedures in terms of policies and philosophy
  •  ensure maintenance of high standards of nursing care
  •  engage expert nursing care to the critically ill and complex patients
  • conduct nursing rounds to monitor provision of nursing care
  • coach nursing officers on managerial and professional issues
  •  intervene to maintain harmonious relationships between nurses, patients’ relatives and co-workers

QUALIFICATIONS
Degree in Nursing plus Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery ORDegree in Nursing (Generic) + Postgraduate basic Diploma,
Minimum of two years working experience in a managerial position.

REMUNERATION
St James Mission Hospital offers a market related salary in line with government scales.
