This role is a full-time remote position, and you’re free to work from anywhere. Be advised that most team meetings occur between 8 am and 12 pm Pacific Time (UTC-8/-7). About the position

Tendermint is seeking a Controller with experience managing and scaling the Accounting function in a growing startup environment. Your work will be instrumental in providing visibility into our company’s financial performance. This role will need to build and manage the Accounting function including building the control environment and operationalizing the various initiatives of the organization (e.g. crypto payroll).

You will be working closely with our Ops team, and most of your time will be dedicated to providing timely and accurate financial statements and laying the foundational infrastructure for an auditable and scalable accounting function.

We’re looking for a motivated and versatile self-starter who balances scalable structure with flexibility, has empathy for their team members and those they work with, and wants to build and own the Accounting function at a small but growing crypto startup!

What you will be doing

• Manage relationships with third-party accounting and auditing firms
• Build, train and manage a team to own the International Accounting function
• Oversee the preparation of timely and accurate financial statements to summarize and forecast the company’s financial status and meet various reporting requirements
• Consolidation of at the moment 4 entities
• Structure and implement and document harmonized Accounting Processes and tools throughout all entities e.g. harmonize expensify and airbase or something else?; 4-eyes-principle for all accounting processes
• Cope with International GAAP (US, German, Canadian, Korean GAAP, other tax law)
• Set accounting guidelines and “train” employees (e.g. expensify)
• Manage accounting, auditing, tax, controls and procurement within the organization
• Guide the business on accounting and tax treatments (e.g. VAT on invoices?)
• Own preparations for audits and third party reviews as well as various tax filing required globally
• Ensure compliance with applicable government regulations and prepare relevant tax and financial reporting
• Use and maintain accounting software (currently Quickbooks Online) to maintain records and prepare reports
• Manage international accounting staff, including delegation of tasks, mentorship, and career development
• Coordinates with and prepares reports for FP&A and COO and upper management.
• Collaborate with in-house and outside counsel in finding tax-efficient structures for segments of the company and the business as a whole
• If applicable, propose implementation of different accounting tools, including ERP, crypto reconciliation, and any other software that will make the team more efficient

• Solid understanding of international GAAP, tax, and other applicable regulations

Nice to have:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field (master’s preferred)
• 10 years+ experience in accounting
• Experience in international payments and cryptocurrency
• CPA or international equivalent license/certification
