Job Description
A large consulting company with branches across South Africa and internationally are looking to hire a Contracts Engineer/Quantity Surveyor to join them on a large water infrastructure project in Lesotho.You will be involved in a multi-billion USD project which includes large-scale civil engineering and construction. You will be responsible for managing the construction contract for the project, especially with respect to contractual matters, including claims, under FIDIC conditions of contract. This will be a fixed-term contract position, based on the construction site in Lesotho. The duration of the involvement in the project will be 69 months
Minimum Requirements
- Must have a minimum of fifteen (15) years post graduate experience in Civil Engineering Works.
- Must have at least ten (10) years’ experience as Contracts Engineer/Quantity Surveyor in major civil works.
- Must have at least ten (10) years’ experience in FIDIC contracts
- Must have a degree in Civil Engineering/Quantity Surveying and be a Professional Engineer or approved equivalent.
- Experience in contractual matters, including claims evaluations.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Monthly measurement and payment certificates
- Claims assessments
- Support to the Engineer in all contractual issues
- Arrange and attend meetings with client and contractor;
- Inspection of the works;
- Advise the client with regards to site matters;
- Approve materials and ensure compliance of mix designs;
- Monitor and report monthly training, empowerment, capacity building, labour and staff returns;
- Monitor and report on relevant OHS and environmental legislation;
- Check and control measurement of quantities as agreed on site, and settle disputes which may arise;
- Issue certificates of payment to the contractor;
- Advise the client on disputes which may arise, and handle claims which are submitted;
- Issue variation orders;
- Provide client with progress, materials and other reports, as required;
- Identify risks to the client;
- Monitor the contractor’s works programme
- Compile Close-out report and as-built data.
