JOB SUMMARY OF THE CONSULTANT TO DEVELOP CBA STRATEGIC PLAN

Introduction

Care for Basotho (CBA) is a non-political and independent local (NGO) that was established and registered in 2014 under the Societies Act of 1966. CBA seeks to bring hope, dignity and social security through sustainable and long-lasting changes in the lives of most vulnerable and marginalized Basotho in poorest communities.  These communities are burdened with high rate of HIV prevalence, unemployment and poverty levels characterised by lack of economic opportunities, the fragile soil, worsening environment and poor infrastructure.

CBA focus will be securing sustainable impact in the human condition and social position of poor men, women and children in under-served communities.  The Organisation serves as a catalyst of change by supporting primary health care, economic empowerment, food security, natural resource management and gender equality to address some of the most pressing needs and improve the livelihoods and wellbeing of the poor and marginalized communities in Lesotho.

Objectives

The objective of the assignment is to review the previous strategic plan and develop the upgraded five year CBA strategic plan. (2023-2025) based on the current trends.

Scope of work

SUMMARY: The consultant will be responsible to develop a work plan, make consultations (internal and External) and produce a formal detailed strategic plan which will be presented to the CBA Board

  • Developing strategic plans for Care for Basotho (CBA) based on the current strengths and weaknesses
  • Presenting findings to Governance and management in a clear and concise manner that can be understood by non-experts.
  • Within a period of two weeks, hold consultative meetings with staff to discuss strategic planning initiatives and obtain feedback from employees.
  • Analysing data to determine areas where improvements can be made to increase productivity and decrease costs
  • Recommending organizational changes to improve efficiency and profitability
  • Interested registered Consultants/firm should write Expression of Interest (EOI) ,to  provide in detail relevant past assign Developing strategic plans for Care for Basotho (CBA) based on the current strengths and weaknesses.
  • Consultants/firm should also attach company profile and updated trading documents.

Deliverables & Outputs

Timely submission of inception report, well defined developed work plan, minutes of the consultative meetings and detailed strategic plan.

Expected Expertise

Strategic thinking: he/she should be able to see the big picture and understand how individual actions can affect the organization’s goals. Be able to document strategic thinking skills to create plans that can help CBA to achieve its objectives.

Business acumen: He/She should have ability to understand the needs of CBA and how to meet them. Should use acumen to create plans that helps CBA to grow and meet its goals.

Communication skills: Demonstrate with clients, team members and other stakeholders throughout the process. Be able to explore verbal and nonverbal communication to convey messages. Excellent interpersonal and professional skills in interacting

Analytical skills: Be able to have strategic planning and ability to analyse data and information to make informed decisions. He/She be responsible for analysing data to determine the strengths and weaknesses of a CBA current strategy and how it compares to its competitors and be responsible for analysing data to determine the potential success of  proposed strategies.

Project management: Be able to use project management skills to involve multiple projects, such as creating a vision, developing goals and objectives, creating a timeline and creating action plans for each goal.

Collaboration: Sound understanding of human rights and gender approaches to HIV response, including programs reaching children, adolescent girls and young women (AGYW), men and key populations (KP) and HIV service delivery.  To be able to work with a variety of different stakeholders and understand their needs, and be able to communicate the benefits of strategic planning with structures of CBA.

Skills and competencies required

The interested incumbent should obtain the following qualifications:

Education 

  1. Developing strategic plans for Care for Basotho (CBA) based on the current strengths and weaknesses
  2. Presenting findings to Governance and management in a clear and concise manner that can be understood by non-experts.
  3. Within two weeks, hold consultative meetings with staff to discuss strategic planning initiatives and obtain feedback from employees.
  4. Analysing data to determine areas where improvements can be made to increase productivity and decrease costs
  5. Recommending organizational changes to improve efficiency and profitability
  6. A master’s degree in Economics, Planning, Organisational Development, Finance, Health, MBA program that includes coursework in finance, accounting, marketing and management or any other related qualification..
  7. Experience in the Health sector in Lesotho will be an added advantage.
  8. Names and contact details of references for similar work done.

Timeline and Deliverables

The assignment is expected to be effective from the 23rd August 2023 and complete before the 7th September 2023
