Project Background

The Ministry of Environment and Forestry, through the Department of Environment in collaboration with the Bureau of Statistics, is implementing the Global Environment Facility (GEF) project titled:

“Integration of Natural Capital Accounting into Lesotho’s Policy and Decision-Making for Sustainable Development.”

The project aims to mainstream Natural Capital Accounting (NCA) into integrated watershed management, focusing on the Upper Senqu Catchment (USC), specifically the Khubelu and Senqunyane sub-catchments.


Project Components

  1. Building institutional capacity on NCA
  2. Mainstreaming NCA into integrated catchment management
  3. Outreach and knowledge management for promotion of NCA
  4. Monitoring and evaluation

Objective of the Consultancy

To enhance Lesotho’s ability to assess, manage, and utilize natural resources effectively using land and water accounting data to support policy decisions and sustainable development planning.

The Ministry seeks to engage a consulting firm or consortium to provide training and capacity building on data collection and analysis techniques for NCA.


Team Composition Requirements

  • Team Leader:
    Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Economics, Natural Resource Management, Statistics, or related field
  • Other Members:
    Minimum first degree in:
    • Geomatics/GIS and Land Survey
    • Natural Resource Economics
    • Water Resources
    • Land (Biodiversity, Range Resources, Soil)
