Practical facilitation skills for community-based facilitators

Introduction:

Conservation South Africa (CSA), as a local affiliate of Conservation International (CI), is committed to helping societies adopt a more sustainable approach to development one that considers and values nature at every turn and improves human well-being through the conservation of healthy ecosystems and the goods and services they provide.

It is widely acknowledged that rural communities depend heavily on natural resources and ecosystem services for their health and livelihoods. In rural settings, the health of people is closely linked to the health of their environment and the livestock that many draw on as their primary economic asset. Assisting communities to understand the importance of these links and the impact of human behaviour on their sustainability is an important part of the work of CSA. How this information is shared and presented is critical in ensuring its accessibility, in enhancing learning and application of knowledge.
