Purpose

This position is responsible for working closely with the New Business Conflicts Supervisor, firm’s Ethics Committee, firm attorneys, and other levels of firm administration as well as other members of the New Business Conflicts Department in connection with the review of new business to identify and facilitate resolution of conflicts of interest.

Key Performance Areas and Accountabilities:

  • Primarily responsible for the review of new business intake requests and collating the results of preliminary conflicts checks, including resolution and clearance of conflict of interest issues;
  • Assist with the research of new client matters, including the resolution and clearance of conflict of interest of such matters, as needed;
  • Assist in coding of engagement letters pursuant to established guidelines and documenting of such actions in the conflicts database;
  • Assist Attorneys in the identification and resolution of conflicts of interest, which, includes coordinating receipt and documentation of and preparation of engagement letters and client waivers and/or consents;
  • Prepare and implement screens/firewalls when required in new firm matters;
  • Assist in securing the approvals of new matters from the Ethics Committee and all other levels of Firm Administration as governed by firm policy guidelines;
  • Assist Supervisor in training Conflicts Analyst Assistants and Conflicts Analysts;
  • Exercise proficiency in understanding and utilizing the Conflicts Database;
  • Monitor and track various special interest projects; and
  • Assist the New Business Conflicts Department with a wide range of research requests and other projects as may be assigned.

Requirements Profile

Education:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent (NQF 4) – (Required)
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent – (Essential)
  • Law Degree – (Desire)

Mental & Environmental / Legal Requirements:

  • This position demands exceptional quality, attention to detail, strict adherence to pre-determined deadlines in a high pressure environment
  • Ability to deliver on tasks independently
  • High level of resilience and persistence
  • Must have a clear criminal and credit history

Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years’ Accounting experience at Operational level- Required

System Skills:

  • Microsoft Office – Intermediate
  • Flexibility in regards to schedule to accommodate work demands

Additional Considerations

  • 9.00 am – 17:30 pm Monday to Friday but additional hours may be required
  • Applicants must be South African citizens or have a valid South African work permit
