The National University of Lesotho invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the following position:
Position: Computer Lab Assistant

- DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.1 Oversee computer systems, databases, network, and technical systems for all students and staff.
1.2 Troubleshoot problems with printers, network, web services, mail services and perform routine maintenance.
1.3 Create user profiles for students on the University network and correct those that are incorrectly set up.
1.4 Installation, configuration, upgrading and proper maintenance of all software (including anti-virus) and hardware in the ICT computer labs.
1.5 Ensure security of computers, care of the lab equipment, upkeep of supplies, and providing smooth operation.
1.6 Supervision, instruction, basic training and orientation of staff and students, including demonstrating the proper use of a computer and software.
1.7 Provide technical assistance to students and staff where and when necessary.
1.8 Assist staff with lab reservations for training sessions, teaching, exams and with special software requests. Inform students timeously of such bookings.
1.9 Keep an accurate inventory of all equipment and software installations in the lab and maintenance thereof.
1.10 Oversee maintenance and security of all labs hardware and software against theft, destruction and hacking, in liaison with the Department of Safety and Security.
1.11 Educate staff and students on use of flash drives and any other storage peripherals and maintaining a clean system, prevent loss of work.
1.12 Replacement of IT hardware as per the Replacement Policy.
1.13 Help students with printing and manage printing jobs accordingly.
1.14 Access control to the lab (registered students only) in liaison with
Department of Safety and Security.
1.15 Responsible for the cleanliness and safety of all computing labs, conduct daily walkthrough of labs and ensure that every component of the lab is working properly.
- QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
2.1 Information Technology (IT) Certification from a reputable
certification provider, for instance, Microsoft (Microsoft Certified IT Professional, MCSA/MCSE, Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist, etc.), CompTIA (CompTIA A+, CTP+, CDIA+, Network+, etc.), Cisco (CCNA, CCDA, CCNA Security), etc.
2.2 A minimum of five (5) years working experience.
2.3 Strong knowledge and experience with Windows and Unix operating systems and an array of technical proficiencies.
2.4 Ability to work well with largely non-technical clientele and able to communicate effectively with students and staff with differing levels of computer knowledge.
2.5 Ability to work well with minimal supervision, and have the ability to facilitate problem resolution.
- KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
3.1 A basic understanding of Windows compatible hardware.
3.2 Experience in diagnosing problems with computer software with the ability to apply solutions to the problems.
3.3 A working knowledge of standard applications (word processing, spreadsheets, email, internet browsers, etc.)
3.4 Strong customer service orientation.
3.5 Positive attitude and willingness to embrace change.
3.6 Adhering to the policies, protocols and guidelines set by the University and Department.
3.7 Excellent interpersonal communication skills (verbal, written, and listening).
3.8 Excellent documentation skills.
3.9 Ability to multi-task.
3.10 Excellent telephone etiquette and interpersonal skills.
3.11 Flexible approach, self-motivation, and resilience.
- SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
May be required to work variable hours and overtime, including weekends.
- RENUMERATION:
The University offers salaries and other benefits commensurate with qualifications and experience. Salary for this position will be on Grade 6, B3 -B of the Patterson Salary Scale.
- CONTRACT:
Permanent and pensionable/gratuitable for Locals and Contract for Non-
Locals.
