About the Role
The Community Liaison Officer (CLO) will be responsible for building and maintaining strong, transparent, and mutually beneficial relationships with the communities affected by our mining operations.
This role requires a proactive and empathetic individual with excellent communication skills, cultural sensitivity, and a deep understanding of community engagement principles.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact between the company and local communities.
- Develop and implement community engagement strategies and plans.
- Conduct regular community consultations and meetings to gather feedback and address concerns.
- Facilitate effective communication and information sharing between the company and community stakeholders.
- Identify and assess community needs and develop programs to support local development.
- Manage and resolve community grievances and conflicts in a timely and respectful manner.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of community engagement initiatives.
- Prepare and submit regular reports on community engagement activities and outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and relevant regulations regarding community relations.
- Support the implementation of the company’s social investment programs.
- Build and maintain relationships with local authorities, NGOs, and other stakeholders.
- Promote and support local employment and procurement opportunities.
Qualifications and Skills
- Diploma/Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Community Development, Communications, or a related field.
- Knowledge of community engagement or liaison roles, preferably within the mining or extractive industries.
- Strong understanding of community development principles and practices.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
- Cultural sensitivity and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse communities.
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of local languages and customs is highly desirable.
- Experience in conflict resolution and grievance management.
- Understanding of environmental and social impact assessments.
- Valid driver’s license.
