SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of team leader, the Lay Counsellor is charged with following responsibilities but not limited to:
Duties:
Carry out the pre-test, rapid testing for HIV anti-body and post-test counselling and follow up.
Participate Index testing and partners’ notification services.
Participate in distribution of HIVST kits.
Provide supportive counselling to clients infected and affected with HIV/AIDS.
Follow national policy, guidelines protocols on counselling.
Follow-up on HIV positive clients to ensure their linkage into care and treatment.
Do HTS Advocacy and awareness.
Arrange for physical escort of the clients to community initiation sites.
Participate in EQC on monthly basis and PPT biannually to for purposes of QA.
Assist in the establishment of support groups.
Liaise with community structures to enable an environment for HTS.
Skills and Competencies
Shall be Trusted by the Community and keep confidential reports of the Client Commitment and passion for the infected and affected with the HIV/AIDS
Shall be able to read and write and be Comfortable to work with sexuality issues Exposure in Community education and awareness raising
Have a non-judgment attitude towards clients
Qualifications and Experience
COSC minimum preferred
Training in HIV Testing and Counselling
1year working experience in HTS or related
