The Equal Education Law Centre (EELC) focuses on public interest litigation and advocacy to advance the right to basic education in South Africa. The EELC also aims to develop young, skilled attorneys and law graduates in public interest litigation.We are a team of activist lawyers working to advance the struggle for quality and equality in education, through legal advocacy and strategic litigation. The EELC works closely with learners, parents, teachers and community members.

The Equal Education Law Centre (EELC) seeks to appoint a Community Engagement Coordinator to be based in Western Cape.

Employment Type: This is a fixed-term one year contract, with the possibility of renewal.

The purpose of the Community Engagement Coordinator is to coordinate various community and stakeholder workshops across the country together with team members of the EELC.

Responsibilities:

Engaging with team members to assist with planning and coordinating of community-based workshops, training and engagements.
Making contact with individuals, schools and organisations to arrange education and law-related workshops.
Assisting with workshop preparation.
Facilitating workshops and training sessions.
Supporting travel, venue and other logistics for community-based workshops, training and engagements.
Supporting development and distribution of workshop and training materials.
Preparing reports on workshops held and maintaining relevant databases.
Distributing and analysing surveys aimed at evaluating workshops, training and engagements.

Requirements:

University degree in social sciences, education, law or related field;
Three to five years post-qualification working experience;
Demonstrated experience with community engagement
Experience in training and facilitation essential;
Based in the Western Cape or able to relocate;
Ability and willingness to travel between provinces on a regular basis;
Fluency in more than two South African languages is an advantage;
Attention to detail;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
Must have own transport.
