Today, we are looking for expertise to help our teams define and implement a comprehensive, organization-wide outreach and communications strategy, bringing eQualitie’s solutions to an ever wider global audience. To meet this need, we are seeking an exceptional candidate to fill the shoes of Communications & Marketing Lead. This individual will join our dynamic team and help reinforce and strengthen our commitment to – and relationships with – civil society organizations, the public sector and the media. Job Description

Working closely with eQualitie leadership, you will be responsible for creating an organizational communications plan and working with various teams on improving their own outreach strategies and processes. Your tasks will include implementing new strategies to grow our visibility, position eQualitie as a leading technology organization in the digital rights sector,  increase awareness of our solutions and help attract new clients and partners. You will also be responsible for assisting the management team in ensuring our voice and efforts align with our identity.

The ideal candidate

The ideal candidate will be a strong collaborator with solid writing, editing, and proofreading skills, and experience in managing across a variety of communications strategies and  using multiple formats such as press releases, contributed articles, podcasts, blogs, social media, video, and other channels as appropriate.  The candidate is not expected to be an expert in everything, but should have demonstrated experience in some of these and a willingness to learn and engage as needed.

The candidate will have a strong interest in making communications products more effective by strengthening the relationship between the organization, our products and tools, and by adapting to meet the expectations of key audiences.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive marketing and communications strategies that enhance our visibility and impact.
  • Manage the organization’s online presence, including the website, social media platforms, and email campaigns.
  • Craft compelling narratives and materials that effectively communicate our mission, vision, and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate communications strategies into programmatic work.
  • Lead media relations efforts, including press releases, op-eds, and liaising with journalists and other media representatives.
  • Leverage data analytics to continually assess the effectiveness of communications strategies and adapt accordingly.
  • Develop and manage a limited communications budget, ensuring strategic allocation of resources.
  • Mentor and guide team members, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment.

The following factors will strengthen an applicant’s candidacy:

  • A solid track-record (5+ years) of coordinating strategic communications for a technology oriented company;
  • Deep understanding of the media and communications landscape with a track record of generating and copy-editing communications products used in policy-relevant research (i.e. advocacy products, policy briefs, annual reports, infographics, etc.)
  • First-rate written and verbal communications skills in English and French (other languages are assets);
  • Experience in managing and updating content across media platforms, including traditional and social media outlets;
  • Sound professional judgment and a strong sense of empathy;
  • A shared spirit of working in a not-for-profit team that is driven by defending and promoting human rights in the digital domain;
  • Strong collaborative approach to supporting colleagues from diverse backgrounds who will have varying experience with communications strategies and techniques
  • Experience collaborating remotely with colleagues distributed worldwide.

It would be great if you also had:

  • Several years experience of writing and communications management experience, with a track record of producing concise and accessible communication products;
  • Experience working with public sector and civil society organizations
  • Experience with – or a demonstrated interest in – working with international as well as independent media;
  • A demonstrated interest in digital security or privacy and experience with end-user digital security solutions;
  • Effective project and time management skills, with the special focus on the ability to plan, prioritize, and meet deadlines;
  • Surprise skills that would be useful in this multi-faceted role
