The Equality Collective, based in rural Eastern Cape, is a social justice advocacy and community-centred law project. Founded in 2020, the Equality Collective’s vision is to see thriving communities collectively participating in a just and caring society. We are innovative in the advancement of access to justice, build the capacity and infrastructure for collective participation and share research and learnings to create a more just and caring society.

The Equality Collective campaigns are driven by community need and intersect key socio-economic rights.  We provide the support (research, technical and organising support) for the collective participation and action of marginalised communities.  The EC campaigns to date involve the right to early childhood development (Real Reform for ECD) and the right to water.

We are a ‘start-up’ NGO and are looking for a passionate, self-driven young person to join our team. This is an exciting position where the person will be given great latitude to develop the communications for social change portfolio.

Responsibilities:
Develop a communications advocacy strategy for social change that inspires people to support our right to ECD and the right to water work
Manage social media platforms as well as produce exciting, timely, responsive and relevant content across all social media platforms (including the website) for the Equality Collective and Real Reform for ECD. This includes building the social media presence and support of both platforms.
Draft, edit, publish content for workshops, funder, marketing and publication materials.
Managing and leading public relations (building relationships with journalists)
Brand building, general communications and reputation management
Assist with the preparation of newsletters, annual report, posters, brochures, toolkits, infographics, webinars, radio material, thought-leadership etc.
Requirements:
Degree in related field (e.g. English, graphic design, communications, marketing etc.)
3 years of relevant working experience.
Excellent English oral and written communication skills.
Proficiency in multiple official languages will be considered an advantage.
Familiarity with design principles ideally experience with Adobe InDesign and Canva.
Organised and can manage multiple deliverables at once.
Have a strong worth ethic that requires minimal direction. Works well under pressure.
Strong computer skills.
Experience with digital media platforms.
Passionate about our work and willing to help grow and build a social justice organisation in a remote rural area.
