Overview:

The Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation – Lesotho (BCMCFL), is the result of a public-private partnership between Baylor College of Medicine International Paediatric AIDS Initiative (BIPAI) and the Government of Lesotho, and is a legal, non-profit/tax exempt organization registered in Lesotho. BCMCFL provides free paediatric and family-centred HIV and tuberculosis prevention, care, treatment and support, serving thousands of children and families affected by HIV, TB, or other child health conditions.

Comprehensive High Impact Community Based HIV Prevention, Testing and Treatment Initiation for Sustained Epidemic Control in Lesotho under the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (CoHip SEC) is an upcoming five-year CDC funded activity that will be implemented by BCMCFL to provide comprehensive and evidence-based community HIV prevention, testing and treatment initiation for the general population and other at-risk groups such as youth, men, migrant and factory workers, as well as building capacity of local organizations, civil society organizations and community systems in implementing data-driven programming. The project is implemented in Berea, Leribe, Quthing, and Qacha’s Nek Districts.

BCMCFL is looking for a qualified candidate to fill the below position available on a full-time, Fixed-Term Contract basis for four (4) months.

Position: Communications Assistant / Digital Content Creator

Based at: Maseru with regular travel to districts

Duties and Responsibilities

Position Overview:

The Communications Assistant / Digital Content Creator will support the implementation of the organization’s communication and visibility strategy to enhance awareness of public health programs and impact stories. The role focuses on creating engaging digital and print content that highlights the organization’s work in HIV prevention, treatment, and related health services while ensuring compliance with donor and partner branding requirements.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

A. Digital Content Creation and Management

  • Develop engaging and informative multimedia content (photos, videos, graphics, and stories) showcasing project activities and impact in the community.
  • Capture field activities, beneficiary stories, and outreach campaigns in collaboration with district teams and technical staff.
  • Produce digital materials that promote health messages on comprehensive HIV prevention, including  PrEP, ART adherence, violence prevention, cervical cancer screening, and related services.
  • Edit and package content for dissemination across multiple platforms, ensuring consistency with branding and messaging guidelines.

B. Social Media and Online Engagement

  • Manage and update the organization’s social media pages (Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn) with fresh, evidence-based content.
  • Create health awareness campaigns aligned with project objectives and national health priorities.
  • Track and analyze social media performance to improve audience engagement and visibility.
  • Ensure timely posting of event highlights, press releases, and key project milestones.

C. Communication, Branding, and Visibility

  • Support implementation of the organization’s communication and visibility plan in line with donor requirements.
  • Ensure all IEC materials, publications, and digital outputs adhere to approved branding standards.
  • Assist in organizing public health events, media briefings, and outreach campaigns.
  • Maintain effective coordination with program and district teams to gather human interest stories and success narratives.

D. Documentation and Knowledge Management

  • Collect and organize field photos, video footage, and testimonials for use in reports and communication materials.
  • Draft success stories, case studies, and short features that demonstrate project results and community impact.
  • Support preparation of quarterly communication reports summarizing outreach, media, and visibility activities.
  • Maintain a well-organized archive of communication assets and consented visuals.

Educational Qualifications, Work Experience and Key Competencies

  • Diploma in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Media Studies, or related field
  • 1–2 years of experience in communications, digital marketing, or health communication, preferably in an NGO or development project.
  • Demonstrated experience in graphic design, video editing, or photography (e.g., using Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, etc.).
  • Experience managing social media pages for organizations or campaigns.
  • Strong writing and editing skills in English (Sesotho proficiency is an added advantage).
  • Familiarity with public health topics such as HIV, TB, violence prevention, or SRH is desirable.
  • Excellent storytelling and visual communication skills.
  • Strong creativity with the ability to simplify technical health information for public audiences.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and multitask in a fast-paced NGO environment.
  • Sensitivity to confidentiality, consent, and ethical representation of beneficiaries.
