Communications and Knowledge Management Consultant
Background
Meeting Targets and Maintaining Epidemic Control (EpiC) is a global project funded by the United States Government (USG). In Lesotho, EpiC implements life-saving activities, including:
- HIV care and treatment services
- HIV testing and counseling
- Prevention and treatment of opportunistic infections (including TB)
- Prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) services
- Health systems strengthening technical support
The project requires targeted support to enhance documentation and communication of results to key stakeholders, including the Government of Lesotho, the U.S. Department of State, and local implementing partners.
This consultancy will focus on capturing and amplifying project achievements, lessons learned, and impact.
Purpose of the Assignment
To provide strategic communications and knowledge management support for the documentation and dissemination of EpiC Lesotho’s achievements, innovations, and lessons learned.
Scope of Work
The consultant will:
- Develop and implement a knowledge management and visibility plan aligned with EpiC global project guidance
- Work with technical, Strategic Information (SI), and program teams to compile an inventory of existing knowledge management products (e.g., technical guidance, training materials, briefs, blogs, success stories)
- Identify and document key project achievements, innovations, and lessons learned
- Package data-driven results into clear and compelling narratives demonstrating impact, sustainability, and local ownership
- Conduct field visits, interviews, photography, and content collection at project-supported sites, in compliance with FHI 360 procedures
- Develop high-quality knowledge management and visibility products, including:
- Success stories
- Project highlights
- Technical and policy briefs
- Infographics
- Donor-facing presentations and summaries
- Identify dissemination opportunities and communication channels
- Support dissemination through stakeholder meetings, conferences, webinars, digital platforms, and other activities
- Ensure compliance with donor branding and marking requirements
- Support additional knowledge management activities as assigned by the Project Director
Deliverables
- Knowledge Management and Visibility Plan aligned with EpiC global guidance
- Audience mapping and dissemination matrix
- Inventory of existing EpiC knowledge products (with hyperlinks)
- At least two knowledge management products (e.g., success stories, project highlights)
- At least one technical and policy brief highlighting implementation approaches and lessons learned
Duration and Level of Effort
- Full-time consultancy (100% level of effort)
- Duration: 1 June to 30 June 2026 (estimated, subject to confirmation)
- Possibility of extension based on project needs
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in communications, knowledge management, or documentation for donor-funded development or public health programs
- Strong experience in writing and storytelling for development programs
- Proven ability to produce high-quality knowledge products and communication materials
- Photography and graphic design skills are an added advantage
Skills and Competencies
- Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills
- Ability to translate technical information into clear and engaging content
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple deliverables within tight deadlines
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills
Reporting Line
The consultant will report to the Project Director and work closely with technical and Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) teams.
Location of Work
Based at the FHI 360 Lesotho office in Maseru, with frequent travel to the field.
Travel
Travel to EpiC-supported districts and partner sites will be required.
