Job Description:

Job Purpose:

Support the wider organization to document key stories from World Vision Lesotho (WVL) work and impact, creating content and promoting WVL strategic organizational objectives, with a focus on strong storytelling and digital. This role will utilize the power of digital and external communications to support projects and events and engage new and existing stakeholders with WVL varied work.

Development of key communications resources namely hard stories, feature articles, still photos and video footage, social media assets, story hu packages for WVIL sectorial and technical programmes which include but not limited to Advocacy and External Engagement, Faith and Development, Grants and Acquisition, Integrated programming i.e. emergency and crisis situations; HIV, Health and Nutrition, child sponsorship, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Livelihoods and Resilience and other events for local as well as international publicity and marketing purposes. The produced communications resources will effectively link the National Office with the World Vision Partnership, Key support offices, media, NGOs, donors and other diverse audiences who need to be informed and engaged in the ongoing ministry of the National Office.

Job Description

1. Communications:

  • Production of greater responsive fast-breaking news, emergency aid response, feature stories, press releases, photographs, marketing materials and other strategic and targeted communications as required. This will help build greater public awareness and recognition for the ministry of World Vision both nationally and internationally.
  • In consultation with the Communications and Marketing Manager, develop and maintain an annual communications calendar of WVL activities and actions for development of external content relating to our work and impact on programmatic work.
  • In collaboration with Communications and Marketing Manager provide training on World Vision International brand positioning, media protocols and related communications support to the National Office.
  • In collaboration with Communications and Marketing Manager Identify and train Cluster Managers to provide detailed information on their projects and beneficiaries, and to identify potential media and marketing stories that can lead to increased donor support and public awareness.
  • Support the implementation of WVL communications and digital strategy across traditional and online media platforms.
  • Ensure merchandise and collateral is on-brand and does not lead to brand dilution
  • Support promotional activity for events and income generation activity
  • Manage and develop up-to-date messaging, ensuring the organization is well informed and supported to talk confidently about WV .
  • Coordinate the production and dissemination of programme collateral ensuring realization of the ambitions of our new strategy and commitment to storytelling and digital.
  • Maintain a diverse online bank of photos, quotes and case studies from across the organization.

2. Digital Engagement:

  • Feed into the content planning process, identifying and sourcing potential news & transformational stories and working across teams to plan and develop content to share across WVL platforms.
  • Manage WVL social media platforms, creating and publishing engaging content to ensure WVL reaches a wide audience and monitor using analytics and other reporting tools.
  • Maintain and develop the WVL website and ensure that it enables people to learn more about, and get involved with, WVL, monitoring the effectiveness of the user experience via Google Analytics and other reporting tools.
  • Create an integrated digital plan that ensures content on the WVL website and social media channels, story hub packages, comms teams channels are joined up and consistent .
  • Be WVL’s ‘brand champion’ for all design work, producing graphics for social media and laying out resources.
  • Oversee the production of WVL newsletters, producing content and key messages to keep core audiences engaged with WVL and monitor the impact using analytics and other reporting tools.
  • Sensitively respond to complex issues and questions, observing organizational lines whilst remaining approachable.
  • Create publications and materials, coordinating relationships with designers and agencies as required.
  • Work with teams across the organization to support their use of the WVL website and communication channels.
  • Act as a brand ambassador, leading colleagues to ensure all digital collateral helps to build our brand and deliver against objectives.

3. Strategy & Performance:

  • Provide regular reporting to the Communications & Marketing Manager on achievement against communication metrics and KPIs and priorities.
  • Stay up-to-date with communications industry best practice and developments.
  • Develop and maintain professional contacts with key print and broadcast media. This is handled in consultation with and supported by the Communications and Marketing Manager.

Support:

  • Manage administrative, procurement processes and vendor relationships as needed for communications team.
  • Any other duties as required

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A University degree or equivalent in journalism, media or mass communications
  • At least two-year experience in journalism, public relations, news writing and photographic skills are preferred.
  • Social Media Management Certification
  • Excellent computer skills, including experience of Using Adobe Creative Cloud
  • A strong writer, able to develop clear messages for different audiences and content formats including on sensitive topics
  • Ability to turn complex and technical information into digestible creative content suitable for the general public

Competencies and Other Attributes

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong editorial skills, with experience of editing content for digital publication and distribution
  • Confident communications professional with experience in strengthening digital & online engagements.
  • Experience using Website Content management Systems
  • Experience of working as part of a creative team with competing priorities
  • Experience of unifying sub-brands and creating branded materials
  • Strong document design experience.
  • Experience in photography and video development
  • Experience in design and development of marketing publications

Work environment:

  • Office based with frequent travel to the field. 
  • 60% Domestic travel is required.
