Vestas Southern Africa is part of Vestas Northern and Central Europe; a Sales Business Unit of Vestas Wind Systems A/S, the largest manufacturer of wind turbines in the world. The Commercial Engineer role is anchored in the sales department but works across multiple functions in an international environment to deliver on Vestas “profitable growth” strategy. We are responsible for sales of high value and complex renewable energy projects in a department with an open work environment.

Responsibilities:

  • You manage projects and are accountable for the internal sales process from beginning to end, starting work after the sales manager has identified sales project opportunities and finishing with sales order intake and handover of signed sales projects to Vestas Construction Department
  • You work across departments and functions in the SBU, handling and coordinating activities and deliverables within and from the Sales Project Team and other internal and external stakeholders
  • You perform analysis of sales opportunities, analysis customer RFx, and develop sales capture plans and together with the Sales Project Team determine the optimal turbine type, sourcing and timing for a given project opportunity
  • You arrange sales team kick-off meetings, and at order close-out, prepare invoicing to customer, hand-over to Vestas construction team and arrange lessons learned
  • You collect and evaluate project cost estimates and configure project builder in Vestas ERP systems (SAP project builder and other proprietary configuration tools), prepare project cost pre-calculations / budgets based on customer requirements
  • You support the sales manager’s preparation of sales business cases for Sales Business Unit management
  • You provide support and document control during bid-preparation, prepare and compile tender submission material and ensure timely submission of tender / proposal responses (including proof-read)
  • You prepare and maintain correspondence with customers and update CRM database
  • You participate in exhibitions, conferences and customer events and arrange customer meetings
  • Provide contract closing and negotiation support to the Sales Manager and handle the contract administration prior to handover to Construction
  • You make inquiries to Vestas supply chain planning to match production plans to sales and project execution programs
  • You prepare invoicing to customer when order is received, and are responsible for preparing hand-over material of sales project to Vestas construction team, and arranging lessons learned meetings

Qualifications:

  • Degree in engineering, business, economics or similar
  • Work experience in matrix organizations and complex project environment
  • Organizational and influence skills with ability to handle sales team work in a matrix organisation
  • Advanced IT skills with knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint. Ideal candidates have experience from SAP C4C CRM, SAP project builder, Primavera, JIRA, SmartSheet).
  • Fluency in written and verbal English

  • You have good IT skills (as per above qualifications)
