Job description:
This is a paid internship ideal for students or recent graduates who have an interest in a career in coding. As a Coding Intern, you’ll be assisting young people aged between 10 and 18 by helping them develop their coding skills.

The ideal Coding Intern will be able to help with a range of coding-related tasks, including but not limited to the following:

  • Work directly with the Education programme manager and Coding Workshop facilitators to support the creation of workshop content, assignments and handout materials.
  • Supporting with the delivery of short workshops or courses, on behalf of our client’s company (Online)
  • Supporting in short activities and Q&A sessions during our workshops.
  • Responding to any questions that the young people and parents may have regarding their coding projects. 
  • Provide guidance and assistance to students in understanding coding concepts and principles.
  • Help troubleshoot coding errors and bugs in students’ projects.
  • Assist in brainstorming ideas and designing activities for coding projects.
  • Offer feedback and suggestions to students for improving their code readability, efficiency, and functionality.
  • Teach best practices to students for organising code and utilising relevant coding frameworks or libraries.
  • Explain complex coding topics in a clear and understandable manner for our students.
  • Offer resources and references for further learning and exploration.
  • Provide support and guidance in using development tools and environments.
  • Assist with any technical issues they may be having. 
  • Help with testing and debugging their code to ensure desired functionality.
  • Support in helping students learn different programming languages and their syntax.

Person Specification:
The candidate must have all of the following:

  • Passionate about coding and enthusiastic about sharing knowledge with young learners.
  • Strong knowledge of coding concepts and ability to teach them effectively to young learners.
  • Some experience in designing and delivering coding lessons and projects for young learners.
  • The ability to engage and inspire teenagers, as well as a patient, supportive and inclusive approach to guide students through the learning process.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles.
  • Have excellent communication skills, including fluent, well-spoken English and good listening skills, asking appropriate questions when needed.
  • Have excellent writing skills with good spelling and punctuation.
  • Have a patient and understanding approach when working with young learners.
  • Be tech savvy, i.e. be comfortable using various online applications. 
  • Be organised and efficient with excellent time management skills
  • Be a quick learner, be adaptable and be ready to get involved in the growth and development of various parts of the organisation
  • Be multi-talented, have a positive attitude and be passionate about your work
  • Be a strong team player with a good sense of humour
  • Must be able to have fun while working!

Essentials:

  • A good understanding of multiple programming languages such as Python, Java, Go, JavaScript, Ruby, SQL, C++, C#, and Swift, as well as markup languages HTML and CSS.
  • Part-time and full-time roles are available. We’re looking for team members that can work up to 40 hours/week (This can be reduced if you are studying.)
  • Working hours are typically Mon-Friday 8am-5pm (UK time)
  • Be able to work from home (using a quiet space)
  • Have a reliable internet connection (ADSL or fibre)
  • You will not be able to use mobile internet as this role requires high-quality consistent internet use
  • Have your own laptop with a minimum I3 processor and 4GB RAM.
  • Have a backup power solution such as a UPS, inverter or generator
  • You will be provided full training for your role
  • The pay will be £3.50 per hour (Non-negotiable)
