COAL YARD ASSISTANT ENERGY (Grade 14 / Scale C)
Sappi Ngodwana Mill seeks to place a Coal Yard Assistant to assist the Coal Yard Operator in the coal yard operations with the loading and off-loading of coal trucks, loading of coal silos, housekeeping, plant checks and reclaiming of coal.
REPORTING TO the Shift Superintendent
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate on a shift basis the side arm charger as per safe work procedure
- Reclaim coal from stockpiles to relevant users as required
- Ensure set parameters are used when reclaiming is preformed guaranteeing last in / last out
- Ensure the correct coal is delivered to the respective boilers/gas/producer
- Move/remove trucks to and from tippler
- Responsible for housekeeping of side arm charger, tippler, pit and tippler structure
- Ensure safe operating of side arm charger
- Clean spillages on a shift basis
- Connect/disconnect rail trucks
- Inspect all trucks to ensure truck are fully off loaded when removed
- Check that brakes of trucks are “on” when truck is on tippler for off loading
- Report all defects to coal yard operator on a shift basis
- Ensure that not more than 15 trucks are moved by the side arm charger at same time
- Ensure that coal samples are taken on a Monday and sent to laboratory for analysis
- Remove undesirable obstacles from rail lines to prevent derailments
- Ensure/monitor correct running of conveyor system to load coal silos to the correct levels
- Move stacker from one stock pile to another
- Adjust stacker to the right stacking position
- Release air brakes to all the trucks as soon as it’s placed for offloading
- Co-ordinate removal of coal rejects
- Check complete conveyor system on a shift basis and report defects to operator

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE
- Matric Maths and Science or N3 Pulp and Paper
- 0-6 months Manufacturing Experience
