Coach – Cricket is responsible for planning and implementation of a sustainable technical program for the cricket club, coach the High Performance team by ensuring that individual players and teams are developed and are performing at the highest level in all official competitions in order to set the trends within the SA Universities cricket through professional management.

Responsibilities:

  • Structure and plan training sessions for the club.
  • Manage the clubs coaches and develop an effective development plan.
  • Develop recruitment and player retention strategies to benefit UJ cricket club.
  • Recruit and retain athletes. Liaise with recruits and tracking of application process.
  • Communicate all logistics with the cricket manager to ensure that logistics are in place for participants according to the expectations of the University and UJ Sport.
  • Represent UJ Sport at meetings of committees and or associations for the sport both internally and externally where applicable.
  • Communicate effectively with a number of key stakeholders including team members, the team sport scientist, officials, administrators, parents/guardians, other coaches, the media and others.
  • Responsible for facilitating and ensuring good communication of all information disseminated by the Cricket Club.
  • Ensure clear and timely communication of news worthy information to the media sport news and events in consultation with line manager through the Media Coordinator.
  • Maintain discipline within the club in conjunction with the coach and captain. Ensure that players conduct themselves in a manner befitting representatives of the UJ Cricket Club.
  • Identify and report risks within the Sport Science environment to the assessment register through line manager.
  • Attendance to development workshops, courses and interventions as per agreed performance development Plan (PDP).
  • Bachelor is Degree/ B. Tech or any relevant qualification (NQF 7), preferably with a major Sport Management or equivalent.
  • CSA Level III Coaching Certificate
  • Two (2) to three (3) years related working experience preferably in High Performance team at university sports level and higher.
  • Up to date knowledge of health and safety and sports related safety measures.
  • Be knowledgeable and have proven skills in the field of High Performance.
  • Be competent in basic financial managment and reporting
  • First aid qualification would be sufficient. Level II would be preferable.
  • A valid driver’s licence

  • Effective leadership and people management

Recommendations:

  • Experience in University Sport
  • Conversant with Microsoft office packages
  • The ability to perform under pressure;
  • Excellent writing, verbal and electronic communication skills;
  • Good Presentation Skills
