Cloud Engineer

70
You will be responsible for expanding our cloud services to support our best-in-class sync. Our sync algorithms are built from the ground up with a clear mathematical structure that guarantees consistency. We have some exciting and challenging developments planned, and you’ll be central to making them happen. You’ll have to design, implement and deploy our services, take care of scalability, availability, security, and operating costs.

We value simple, clean and performant solutions. We embrace automation and robust designs, but we’re always cautious not to fall into the trap of over-engineering.

We’re looking for someone with prior experience in deploying and running production services on AWS, Google Cloud, or similar. You should understand networking, databases, implications of the CAP theorem, the kinds of tradeoffs involved in different solution stacks, and so forth. You should probably have an opinion on Docker.

Our cloud services revolve around our sync infrastructure, and have gradually grown to include a push server and our Mail to Things service. They are written in multiple languages, both scripting and compiled. We care much more about general abilities than knowledge of specific languages or frameworks. You’ll have to show us that you’re able to quickly learn and adapt to these different environments. Tell us what awesome things you’ve done in the past, and send us something that shows off your abilities.

If you’ve worked on a similar sounding project and can send us sample code, even better! Alternatively – or additionally – you’re invited to download our sample project, follow the instructions inside, and then send us your implementation.

Our office is in Stuttgart, so if you’re looking for an opportunity to spend some time in the heart of Europe, fantastic, we have a desk waiting for you! Otherwise, you’re welcome to work remotely, like many of us already do.

Ultimately, Cultured Code is a place where you’ll have an opportunity to do something excellent, and we aim to employ people who want to strive for that as part of a team. If you share our values and have a great skill-set then we hope you’ll get in touch!

We’ll start processing applications on March 13, with interviews following shortly after. If you only found out about this position a bit late, don’t hesitate to apply anyway. We’ll be able to review new applications until the end of March.
