POSITION AT ROMA COLLEGE OF NURSING:
JOB TITLE: CLINICAL SUPERVISOR
REPORTS TO: DEPUTY PRINCIPAL NURSE EDUCATOR
JOB SUMMARY:
The incumbent reports to the Deputy Principal Nurse Educator. Under the general supervision of the Head of School/ College of Nursing, the incumbent is responsible for all clinical instruction of Nursing and Midwifery students.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Establishes and maintains short and long term planning for clinical instruction activities:
- Participates in planning curriculum, teaching schedule, and course outline
- Collaborates with the faculty to develop goals and objectives for the clinical teaching and learning.
- Collaborates with other clinical supervisors from other nursing schools to coordinate clinical placements of students
- Supports research trends for the nursing faculty.
- implements the curriculum.
- Prepares the lesson plans and teaching aids
- Demonstrates and teaches patient care in the clinical setting
- Supervises and evaluates student progress,
- Maintains records of student clinical experience.
- Prepares and administers examinations
- Keeps track of student who have not completed stated competencies during the specified period of placement and institute remedial measures
- Submit reports on students’ clinical progress and cumulative numbers to the Coordinator of the Clinical Supervision
- Monitors functionality of the clinical laboratory and support of students in clinical practice.
- Collaborates with the faculty to ensure that the clinical skills laboratory runs efficiently.
- Coordinates clinical appointments for faculty and students.
- Prepares simulators and simulation rooms in advance for all simulation activities.
Keeps track of students as they enroll in the simulation lab.
- Ensures that simulation equipment is in good condition and working order.
- Keeps inventory of simulation equipment and supplies each month and or quarter.
- Promotes academic and professional growth of students.
Exposes and introduces students to the Nursing process
- Cultivates critical thinking and problem solving skills to students at the appropriate level of study.
- Facilitates implementation of the management principles by students.
- Provides guidance and counseling to students and refers them to an appropriate facility as necessary
- Promotes prbfessional code of conduct by students
- Adheres to the rules and standards as they apply to Lesotho Nursing Council
- Promotes personal and professional growth and development among students and faculty
- Engages in research
- Identifies related research areas in Nursing or midwifery
- Undertakes research in order to improve Nursing and Midwifery Education and Practice
- Conforms to the standards and requirements set by the Research Committee of the institution.
- Publish the research results in recognized journals.
- Facilitate identification of research topics for the students’ research project
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelors Degree in Nursing Education with two years clinical experience with direct patient care
OR
- Bachelors Degree in Nursing & Midwifery with a qualification in Education /Preceptorship with minimum two years clinical experience with direct patient care
AND
- Must be a registered Nurse with Midwifery
- Past experience with teaching in simulation or student clinical teaching & supervision will be added advantage.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Current registration with the Lesotho Nursing Council
- Current Membership with Lesotho Nurses Association RELATIONSHIPS – Liaises with:
- The in-charges of clinical units
- The committees identified by the Institution
- Clinical Supervisors of other Institutions
- Personnel with appropriate clinical specialty/expertise OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Computer literacy
- Innovative, analytic, interpretive and problem solving.
- Able to work a flexible schedule.
- Good communication and interpersonal skill to interact with faculty, students and other hospital staff.
- Mature and decisive.
- Ability to work under pressure and still produce quality work
