Overview:

The Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation – Lesotho (BCMCFL), is the result of a public-private partnership between Baylor College of Medicine International Paediatric AIDS Initiative (BIPAI) and the Government of Lesotho, and is a legal, non-profit/tax exempt organization registered in Lesotho. BCMCFL provides free paediatric and family-centred HIV and tuberculosis prevention, care, treatment, and support, serving thousands of children and families affected by HIV, TB, or other child health conditions.

Lesotho/Local Entities Advancing and Driving Health Responses (LEADR) is a proposed multi-year project funded by USAID intended to provide effective decentralized, differentiated, and integrated facility and community services to maximize equitable access to comprehensive HIV, TB, and COVID-19 interventions through a primary health care approach to ensure that clients have access to holistic services. Its goal is to support the Government of Lesotho to deliver high-quality integrated prevention, care and treatment services that will sustain the reduction in HIV, TB, and COVID-19 transmission, morbidity, and mortality in Lesotho through the implementation of a comprehensive, person-centered approach. If awarded to BCMCFL, the project will be implemented in Butha Buthe and Mokhotlong districts and at the BCMCFL Maseru Centre of Excellence (COE) and Mohale’s Hoek Satellite Center of Excellence (SCOE).

BCMCFL is looking for qualified candidates to fill in the following positions available on a full-time, Fixed-Term Contract basis.

Position: Clinical Nurse – Based in Butha-Buthe Rampai Health Centre

Duties and Responsibilities

Position Overview:
The Clinical Nurses will serve as site-level nurse at high and medium volume and hard to reach sites in Butha Buthe – Rampai Health Centre. The Clinical Nurse will collaborate with other facility level personnel including professional counsellors, lay counsellors, records assistants and MoH/CHAL nurses for the provision of integrated comprehensive prevention, care, and treatment services, in alignment with the MoH primary healthcare model.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct patient care to:
    o HIV positive patients in ART corner, and/or
    o ANC, PNCH, MNCH, and U5 clients
    o TB Client co-infected with HIV
  • Ensure direct provision of TB and HIV prevention and treatment services.
  • Ensure provision of cervical cancer screening and treatment services
  • Work with staff in PMTCT, TB and ART clinics to strengthen tracking of clients missing their follow-up appointments.
  • Provide referrals and facility referrals feedback.
  • Ensure proper counselling is being provided to women on PMTCT, ART, PREP or TB on importance of prevention of cervical cancer through screening is carried;
  • Provide appropriate management or referral and feedback for women in need of further services such as confirmation of cervical screening results, treatment of pre-cancers of the cervix and or referral of women with invasive cancer of the Cervix;
  • Ensure provision of care and appropriate referral of COVID-19 suspects;
  • Work with health facility staff to ensure that all related medications, supplies and commodities are always in stock at their facility;
  • Ensure strict infection control measures are carried out, including appropriate medical waste management.
  • Ensure timely blood monitoring and review of relevant results (e.g. Viral load);
  • Review relevant results and ensure appropriate filling of clients results and files;
  • Submit monthly summary reports regarding clinical and programmatic activities;
  • Administer urgent medication and procedures;
  • Perform other duties that are assigned by the administration.

Educational Qualifications, Work Experience and Key Competencies

  • Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery;
  • Current valid registration with Lesotho Nursing Council;
  • Postgraduate qualification in HIV/AIDS with expertise in HIV care and treatment would be an added advantage;
  • Good report writing, training and computer skills.
