We have an outstanding opportunity for a Climate Change Officer in our Economic, Youth and Sustainable Development Directorate.

Reporting to Head, Climate Change and working closely with Adviser, Climate Change, the post holder will be responsible for supporting the provision of technical, policy and programming implementation support and capacity development services pertaining to Climate Change and within the climate change programme.

Among the responsibilities encompassed in this role includes (but are not limited to):

  • Undertakes research and analysis on the identification of new and emerging climate issues including providing research, analysis, policy briefs and project proposals and recommendations to support the strategic support provided by the Climate Change Section to member states and other technical assistance programmes within the Commonwealth Secretariat.
  • Supports Commonwealth work programme on climate change specifically looking at issues around climate change and its impact on terrestrial ecosystems, biodiversity and enhanced action by way of accessing climate finance.
  • Contributes to the preparation of work plans and budgets, and monitoring and reporting on budget/programme performance in the context of results-based management.

To be considered, you must have attained a first degree in Climate Change, Environmental Studies, International Development or closely related field specialising in environmental sciences. You will also need to have at least 5 years’ relevant experience in climate change and environment related issues in the context of a government, regional and international institution. Additionally, an Advanced University Degree in one or more of the above disciplines and prior experience working in a multilateral policy-related environment with a focus on climate finance and international climate governance is desirable.
