We are assisting with the recruitment of a Clean Cooking & Space Heating Specialist for a large-scale energy access programme under Mission 300, supporting implementation in Lesotho. The programme focuses on improving access to reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to tangible, on-the-ground progress, playing a key part in translating strategic objectives into practical implementation. Working alongside government, development partners, and private sector stakeholders, the position will help advance country priorities while strengthening long-term energy access outcomes.
This position focuses specifically on household energy, addressing how cooking and heating needs are met through the identification and advancement of cleaner, more efficient solutions. It requires an experienced specialist to evaluate technologies, delivery approaches, and market dynamics, ensuring solutions are practical, scalable, and aligned with local conditions. The role combines technical expertise with implementation insight, contributing to interventions that are both effective in design and viable in real-world application.
Key Requirements:
- Degree in energy, engineering, environmental science, or a related technical field; complementary backgrounds in development or public policy are advantageous where supported by relevant sector experience
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in clean cooking, heating, or energy access, including hands-on work with technologies and fuels such as improved cookstoves, LPG, electric cooking, or biomass alternatives, and direct involvement in programme or project delivery
- Comprehensive expertise across clean cooking technologies, fuel strategies, and scalable delivery models in diverse contexts, including the ability to assess technical feasibility, adoption barriers, and long-term viability of solutions, as well as understanding heating needs in colder or high-altitude environments
- Experience operating across government, donor, and private sector environments, with a solid grasp of market development approaches, supply chain considerations, and behaviour change dynamics, alongside an understanding of how cooking and heating integrate within broader energy access systems
