Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the following position tenable at the Teaching Service for Government and Church-Owned Schools around Lesotho.
Note: All positions are open to both qualified unemployed teachers and serving teachers who have acquired higher qualifications.
Classroom Teacher (Primary)

A total of 74 vacancies are available in primary schools across all districts of Lesotho. Positions are available at the following levels:
- Senior Teacher II (Primary)
- Senior Teacher I (Primary)
- Teacher II (Primary)
- Teacher I (Primary)
- Teacher I (ECCD)
Job Summary
To carry out classroom instruction to ensure that pupils acquire quality education as determined by the education policy, curriculum, and assessment standards in line with global standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching
- Demonstrate outstanding teaching in assigned learning areas.
- Prepare quality lessons in the relevant subject area.
- Take on a curriculum leadership role in respect of the subject or learning area.
- Plan, coordinate, control, administer, evaluate and report on students’ academic progress.
- Develop learning and teaching materials.
- Demonstrate leadership and mentorship for junior teaching staff.
Student Support
- Participate in guidance, counselling and psychosocial support of learners.
- Promote discipline and the general welfare of learners.
- Maintain class attendance registers and learner records as required by school regulations.
- Meet with parents to discuss learners’ progress and conduct.
Extra-Curricular Activities
- Participate in organising sports, community, social and cultural activities.
Job Specification
Senior Teacher II (Primary)
Level: 1
Grade: L5
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
- M.Ed or equivalent plus at least 2 years’ experience as Senior Teacher I with satisfactory performance and requisite competencies;
OR
- B.Ed Honours or equivalent plus 3 years’ experience as Senior Teacher I with satisfactory performance and requisite competencies;
OR
- B.Ed or equivalent plus at least 5 years’ experience as Senior Teacher I with satisfactory performance and requisite competencies.
Senior Teacher I (Primary)
Level: 1
Grade: L4b
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
- M.Ed or equivalent;
OR
- B.Ed Honours or equivalent plus 3 years’ experience as Teacher II;
OR
- B.Ed or equivalent plus at least 5 years’ experience as Teacher II with satisfactory performance and requisite competencies.
Teacher II (Primary)
Level: 1
Grade: L4a
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Primary Education or equivalent;
OR
- Diploma in Primary Education or equivalent plus 4 years’ teaching experience as Teacher I with satisfactory performance and requisite competencies.
Teacher I (Primary)
Level: 1
Grade: L3b
Applicants must possess:
- Diploma in Primary Education;
OR
- Equivalent qualification.
Teacher I (ECCD)
Level: 1
Grade: L3a
Applicants must possess:
- Certificate in Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) or equivalent.
For Teacher I (ECCD) positions, priority will be given to teachers with experience teaching Reception classes in Public Schools.
Salary Scales
Senior Teacher II (Primary)
Salary Range: M179,976.00 – M225,852.00 per annum
Senior Teacher I (Primary)
Salary Range: M166,272.00 – M194,328.00 per annum
Teacher II (Primary)
Salary Range: M142,896.00 – M170,940.00 per annum
Teacher I (Primary)
Salary Range: M123,984.00 – M149,172.00 per annum
Teacher I (ECCD)
Salary Range: M98,982.00 – M123,984.00 per annum
