Job Description

CDM International Inc. (CDM) is a wholly owned subsidiary of CDM Smith Inc., a privately owned, global, full-service consulting, design/build engineering, construction, and operations firm established in 1947. CDM has been appointed by the Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA) for the project management services for the implementation of Phase II of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project.

The Advance Infrastructure component involves the construction of approximately 50km of new roads, other feeder roads, a couple of major road bridges and smaller pedestrian bridges over the Polihali reservoir. Other infrastructure involves bulk power supply, telecommunications, and project housing.

CDM is looking for a qualified Civil Engineer, who is an experienced project management professional to lead one of the Advance Infrastructure components; namely Major Bridges and approach roads in the Project Management Unit attached to the LHDA.

Job Responsibilities:
•Lead the procurement and contract negotiations with professional service providers for the design and construction supervision of Major Road Bridges and associated roadworks
•Coordination with other Discipline Leads responsible for the mitigation of environmental, socio-economic, public health and occupational safety impacts
•Project Management and oversight of consulting engineering teams contracted to design and supervise the infrastructure works package for Major Bridges
•Contract Administration and progress reporting to both client and other stakeholders as required

Minimum Qualifications

•Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university
•Chartered/Professional Membership from an internationally recognized institution
•20 years of experience covering detailed engineering design, procurement, construction supervision, contract administration and project management involving large scale roads and bridges construction
•Demonstrable experience as a project manager on at least 2 contracts involving roads and bridges
•At least 10 years’ experience in the design and construction supervision of new rural roads
•At least 5 years’ experience in the design and construction supervision of road bridges
•Demonstrable experience of having worked in a significant role on two projects implemented under FIDIC Conditions of Contract; either the Engineer or the Engineer’s Representative
•Excellent oral and written communications skills in English, including the ability to prepare reports, chair progress meetings, public speaking and negotiating skills
•Ability to work as part of a high-performing and multi-disciplinary team, often operating under tight deadlines, while at the same time have the ability to function independently in your discipline area
• Ability to legally work or secure work authorization to work in Lesotho

Background Check and Drug Testing Information

CDM Smith reserves the right to require background checks including criminal, employment, education, licensure, etc. as well as credit and motor vehicle when applicable for certain positions.
