Introduction to CIVICUS

The CIVICUS alliance spans the spectrum of civil society, bringing together individuals and organisations at the local, national, regional and international levels. As well as civil society organisations (CSOs) engaged in advocacy, accountability and service delivery work, our 4,000-strong membership across 175 countries includes trade unions, faith-based groups, professional associations, capacity development organisations and philanthropic foundations. We deliver our programmes and advance our strategic goals primarily by working with the members of our alliance.

CIVICUS Solidarity Fund

The CIVICUS Solidarity Fund (CSF) is a participatory grant-making fund that aims to promote civil society diversity and resilience, and seeks to provide meaningful resources and support to members through flexible grants. The Fund is accessible to a broad spectrum of constituents that normally struggle to access resources and support due to restrictions in the space where they operate, their organising characteristics, or simply for who they are and what they challenge.

The objectives of the CIVICUS Solidarity Fund are to:

  • Enhance the solidarity within the alliance, fostering a sense of belonging to a global movement for change;
  • Support civil society diversity and resilience, especially among smaller, non-formal actors;
  • Create opportunities where they do not exist for change-seeking actors to contribute to a more just, inclusive and sustainable world

You can learn more about the framework of the CSF here.

CIVICUS launched the third round of funding application at the end of February 2020.
