Citizen Science Life Maps Officer

32

You are sold on the value of communities in global health and get excited when you find opportunities to resource communities most affected by HIV to lead interventions. You come alive when working hands-on with community-based organizations. By nature, you are an organizer and doer. You are extremely wellorganized, able to learn quickly and have an acute attention to detail. Project management is your middle name! You work well in teams, can prioritize in the face of competing issues, remain balanced and efficient in the face of stress, while maintaining a good sense of humour. You are flexible and can excel in a constantly changing external environment like advocacy, that often requires frequent programmatic, financial, and operational adjustments. You are hip and happening in the face of technology.

Job Description

ITPC is a global activist network that fights for universal access to optimal treatment and diagnostics. As an issue-based coalition, ITPC uses HIV as an entry point to the right to health, partnering with affected communities across the world to address treatment access issues for diseases including diabetes, hepatitis C and hypertension.

Our operational hub, in Johannesburg, South Africa, supports a small global (and remote) team to carry out our mandate to ensure that everyone in need of treatment can get it. This position is at the heart of trying to improve the effective implementation of ongoing program activities in the global team.

ITPC has secured funding to implement a high-impact, local, community-led monitoring initiative in South Africa and Malawi under its ‘Watch What Matters’ strategic focus area.

The Citizen Science Life Maps Officer will administer and coordinate the implementation of Life Maps in South Africa and Malawi. Life Maps is a component of the Citizen Science project aiming to support and augment data collected through the CLM methodology in South Africa and Malawi. ITPC will undertake a mixed-methods, community-led study that uses participatory research methods to empower recipients of care to report directly on their own needs and experiences for healthcare provision. Life Maps will recruit recipients of care encompassing people living with HIV and HIV/TB co-infection, including participants who may be classified as belonging to ‘key populations’, and will utilize structured assignments to collect participants testimonials. Tools will be used to facilitate participatory data collection analysis, including digital and visual media. The materials needed to gather this data will be provided to participants during the project, and interactive engagements on needs and potential uses of technologies will be explored between ITPC research and CLM leads and participants.

The Life Maps Officer will report to the Citizen Science Life Maps Manager, working in close collaboration with the project team to support the Life Maps function.
