The position
As our organization expands, we are in need of a passionate, dynamic, and self-motivated professional who can assist us with the implementation of our fundraising strategies across our three offices. The Business Development and Fundraising Coordinator will work closely with the Executive Director and together support the boards and offices in the US (New York), UK (London) and South Africa (Cape Town). The purpose of the position is to coordinate and support all fundraising and income generation activities.
The day to day work will include prospecting research, administrative fundraising support, setting up of meetings with donors and funders, and keeping databases and dashboards up to date. More concretely, the Business Development and Fundraising Coordinator will:
- Manage and track donor information, and develop (in collaboration with the Executive Director) a stewardship program aimed at cultivating deeper ties with donors
- Work with the organization’s management to build relationships with foundations, corporations, and individual donors
- As part of our new podcasting venture, assist in building a client base for income generation opportunities
- Set up meetings and assist with the coordination of fundraising trips for the senior management team members to the US, UK and in South Africa
- In partnership with team members, draft funding proposals and pitch documents
- Work with our communications manager to execute social media fundraising campaigns, develop supporter newsletters, and maximize communication and visibility potential
Assist management in finding partners and sponsors for special events throughout the year
- Research global fundraising trends and assist with the development of country-specific fundraising strategies for the US, UK and South Africa
- Keep the organization up-to-date on changing donor priorities and identify new funding opportunities
- Regularly monitor donor websites and identify investor opportunities
- Suggest innovative ideas for effective resource mobilization and income generation
- Administration of electronic databases, archive and knowledge management systems
The ideal candidate for the position
A keen interest in youth issues, human rights and social justice is a must, along with excellent writing, editing, and interpersonal communications skills. You have a good understanding of the funding landscape in South Africa and globally. As the successful candidate, you have knowledge of various types of fundraising and resource mobilization strategies for NGOs. You are responsive and communicate clearly and effectively whether in one-on-one conversations with team members, or writing emails and proposals. You have an engaging, confident public persona and are confident to network and pitch the business to a diverse audience. Your entrepreneurial spirit can identify new opportunities for the organization and explore innovative ideas to generate income. You see yourself pursuing a career in the NGO-sector.
What you bring
- Work experience of a minimum of 2 years in fundraising, business development of partnership building
- Ability to work with team members and board members to cultivate and expand corporate, foundation, and major donor giving
- Brilliant writing, with a strong sense of detail
- Digital literacy, high-level computer skills, and familiarity with all social media platforms
- Highly-motivated, confident communicator with the ability to manage relationships
- Recognized university degree, and preferably a degree in business-related subjects, economics, or sales and marketing.
- Experience in working with targets and deadlines
- A creative, pro-active and energetic attitude with the ability to identify and seize opportunities
Additional advantageous skills
- Ability to analyze data and package it succinctly
- Experience working with international NGOs
- Experience with CSI fundraising
- Master’s degree or postgraduate qualification
This position is a full-time position and will be based in Cape Town. The Children’s Radio Foundation pays market-related salaries.
