Starfish, now in its 20th year, is on an exciting evolution path from being a grant manager to a hybrid social entrepreneurial venture. Starfish remains invested in improving the conditions of children orphaned or vulnerable in South Africa, by working in partnership with community-based organisations (CBOs), as well as local and international funding partners. Starfish currently has an operational footprint in 4 provinces: Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Kwa-Zulu Natal and the Eastern Cape.

A view of Starfish operations:
Mobilise funds and resources for CBOs and internal projects;
Grant management – identify CBOs and/ or programmes, perform due diligence, monitor implementation and organisational health, and report back to the relevant stakeholders;
Provide training, mentoring and capacity building (organisational development, child & youth care, primary health care);
Ideate and manage the roll out of mobile healthcare clinics into rural communities;
Facilitate strategic partnerships between CBOs, government, funding partners and other similar organisations to Starfish; and,
Provide strategic guidance and programme support for outcomes-based reporting in health, education and child protection services;
Starfish is registered as both an NPO and NPC
The organisation seeks to appoint a Chief Executive Officer

Key responsibilities include:
Provide strategic direction – business development, planning and management of the organisation;
Evaluate market trends and continuously evaluate both opportunities and risks for Starfish;
Generate revenue for ongoing organisational sustainability – based on diverse sources of income (target of 50% grant funding, 50% operational revenue over the next 3 years);
Financial and risk oversight – project budgeting and costing, annual organisational budgets, audit and reports, maintenance of a risk register;
Operations management – logistics and administrative, includes programme planning and implementation in line with funding partner deliverables;
Maintaining and improving tangible and measurable returns to funding partners;
Build and maintaining strategic partnerships – include South African Government, international aid agencies, corporates, individuals and civil service organisations;
Human resources management – manage a small team (< 10) team comprising project, M&E, fundraising, and finance and risk resources;
Governance and regulatory compliance;
Strategic communication – marketing and public relations;
Direct reporting line to the Board of Directors
Requirements:
Degree or demonstrated experience in a relevant discipline community development, health, education, social work, early childhood development, psychology, business development.;
At least five years senior management experience, with experience managing a team;
Strong experience in fundraising/ sales and the ability to demonstrate previous fundraising/ sales success;
Strong financial acumen and commercial reasoning;
Skills and knowledge in the following an advantage: health, education, child protection, organisational development, monitoring & evaluation, HIV/ AIDS, TB;
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
Excellent networking skills;
Computer literate (Microsoft Suite); and
Fluent in English.
Remuneration package:

This role is a full-time role. CTC between R700 000 and R900 000 p.a. dependent on skills and experience. Package also includes performance target based incentives, provident fund, and group life cover.
