Economic and social cost of gender-based violence is not only catastrophic to social progress but has inhibiting effects to women leading productive lives in society. South Africa is facing a humanitarian crisis of women and children who live in fear.On the 4th February 2021 President Cyril Ramaphosa launched the multi-sectoral, private sector-led Gender Based Violence and Femicide (“GBVF”) Response Fund1 (“the Fund”) aligned to the National Strategic Plan, in order to strengthen the coordinated national response to the crisis of gender-based violence and femicide in the country. The Fund believes that working with social partners in the private sector, civil society and with philanthropic organisations, can eradicate this social menace and make our communities safe places to live, work, build better human relations and raise healthy families.

The Fund seeks to appoint a Chief Executive Officer to be based in South Africa.

Report to: The Gender Based Violence and Femicide (“GBVF”) Response Fund1 (“the Fund”) Board of directors.

The CEO will be appointed for a period of 2 years unless stated otherwise.

Purpose
The CEO is expected to provide leadership on the Fund’s strategic imperatives, working with the Board of Directors to:
provide strategic direction for the articulation of the Fund’s strategic imperatives
To strengthen effective implementation of the strategy
To strengthen alignment of key stakeholders, donors and  civil society across the public and private sector institutions
The CEO will maintain stakeholder relations with key partners and donors across the public sector, civil society organisations, trade union and private sector.
Key Performance Areas:
Mission stewardship: Communicate the Fund’s mission, vision and strategic objectives within and outside the organisation
Governance: Work with the Board and Board Sub Committees to ensure that effective governance process are adhered to, risks are assessed and continuously managed within the organisation
Values and Ethics: Uphold and demonstrate ethical leadership, commitment to integrity and transparency according to the Fund’s guiding principles and ensure organisational adoption of and adherence to the Fund’s values and ethical standards
Financial Management: Work with the Fundraising Board Sub Committee and CFO to ensure that asset investment management and financial administration strategies and systems are effective and aligned to the Fund’s mission and ensure that such strategies are well implemented
Programme Management: Work with the Board Sub Committees and staff to ensure effective and efficient implementation of the programming, grant making and grant management objectives of the Fund
Accountability and Evaluation: Work with the Board and Board Disbursement Sub Committee to establish accountability standards, demonstrating the effective use of funds in a transparent manner, and systems that track the Fund’s effectiveness and impact
Partnership: Working collaboratively with partners, donors and grantees across the public sector, civil society organisations, trade union and private sector for greater impact
Public Engagement: Contribute to communication of the Fund’s vision and key messages through thought leadership and acting as an external advocate for the Fund
Leadership and People Management: Build and lead a competent team for the Fund
Education and Professional experience:
A post graduate qualification in development, social sciences or business management; a Master’s degree is advantageous
Deepened understanding of GBVF and its social impact
Social activism or understanding of social challenges in South Africa
Strong  strategic capability
Demonstrable leadership skills
Professional experience:
Minimum 10 years proven management experience at Senior or Executive level in a complex environment
Experience in running an organisation end to end at an Executive level
Experience in civil society organisations and government relationships
Extensive corporate governance knowledge and experience in public and private sector
Significant experience in successful stakeholder engagement and negotiation across a wide and complex stakeholder base
