Numeric is a small, friendly team who are on a mission to help young South Africans excel in mathematics. Numeric’s goal is to create exciting and high impact learning environments with a view to helping primary school learners in low-income areas establish strong foundations in mathematics. We do this through our network of 45 partner schools across Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban, and through our partnerships with local universities from which we recruit our coaches.

Based in Cape Town, Numeric seeks to appoint a

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

The Chief Executive Officer must be passionate about maths education and understand the value of strong foundational mathematics to both individuals and society. The ideal candidate should have experience running programs, managing and motivating people, liaising with and reporting to a board of directors, and maintaining and establishing relationships with funders.  We are looking for someone with both the leadership qualities and administrative skills required to run an organisation of 20 full-time employees and 100 part-time employees. 

Key responsibilities include:
Furthering the organisation’s vision and providing leadership to team members around that vision
Carrying out the organisation’s operations, management and administration in accordance with its strategic objectives
Maintaining good relationships with existing funders and actively establishing relationships with prospective donors, including preparing high-quality proposals and reporting
Overseeing the recruitment and retention of passionate and dedicated staff and investing in their development
Ensuring sound and transparent management of the organisation’s finances
Actively engaging and involving the board in setting and implementing the organisation’s goals
Reporting to the Board and appropriate sub-committees as required
Cultivating effective relationships with our partner schools, universities, public officials and the broader public
Innovating on and extending Numeric’s work with inputs from relevant stakeholders
Ensuring a high quality of coach recruitment, training, and program delivery at our partner schools
Requirements:
Postgraduate university degree or equivalent
5-10 years management and senior leadership experience
Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
High integrity and commitment to the values of the organisation
Experience in building healthy teams and a collaborative organizational culture
Experience in fundraising, networking and partnership building
Ability to produce and interpret financial and performance data
Experience in program management and delivery
Experience building and implementing monitoring and evaluation strategies
High degree of emotional intelligence
Ongoing commitment to personal growth and development
Outstanding analytical and problem-solving abilities
Availability to travel nationally for work purposes
