VACANCY: Chef (with Pastry experience)

DEPARTMENT: Kitchen

Machabeng College invites applications from passionate and qualified individuals for the position of Chef, with Pastry experience. The incumbent will be responsible to the Kitchen Supervisor, for planning, managing, and providing assistance in the daily operations, as well as supervision of baking confectionery for the kitchen and tuckshop.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and cook daily meals (breakfast, lunch, snacks) for students and staff.
  • Design and execute a variety of pastries, bread, cakes, and desserts suitable for a school setting.
  • Ensure meals meet nutritional guidelines and accommodate dietary restrictions (allergies, vegetarian, halal, etc.).
  • Maintain high standards of food quality, taste, and presentation.
  • Develop seasonal menus with a mix of healthy and appealing options.

Kitchen & Hygiene Management

  • Oversee kitchen operations, including inventory, ordering, and stock management.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene regulations
  • Ability to address kitchen staff and students in a pleasant and courteous manner.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen equipment and storage areas.
  • Collaborate with school administration on meal planning and special events (e.g., bake sales, celebrations).

Qualifications & Experience

  • Professional Certification: Diploma in Culinary Arts, Pastry, or related field.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 3 years of experience as a chef and pastry chef
    • Proven expertise in pastry and bakery production.
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of baking techniques, ingredients, and food presentation.
    • Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume environment.
    • Familiarity with nutrition standards for children/adolescents.
