Position: Carpenter
Letšeng Diamonds seeks to engage a Mosotho professional with appropriate skills and aptitude to fill the position of Carpenter.
Purpose of the Position
To execute instructions using technical specifications, knowledge, and skills in order to respond to construction and/or maintenance of infrastructure at Letšeng Mine.
Main Outputs and Responsibilities
- Complete risk assessments prior to starting work and use PPE and tools correctly to ensure safety
- Follow HSE procedures, obtain required permits, and liaise with relevant departments or sections as required
- Receive maintenance assignments, plan, organise, and prioritise tasks for completion
- Identify problems through observation and apply technical knowledge to select the most cost‑effective solutions
- Select appropriate materials and tools for assignments and report completed work to the line supervisor
- Read drawings and sketches to fully understand job requirements
- Take measurements and calculate the size and quantity of materials required
- Cut, shape, and smooth lumber and other materials according to specifications
- Build or repair window and door frames using raw materials or pre‑constructed items
- Lay flooring and mount drywalls, ensuring proper alignment and levelling
- Carve, assemble, and install furniture, cabinets, shelves, and other fittings
- Design, fabricate, and install roof trusses (timber and steel) for mine infrastructure
- Maintain roofing structures at camp facilities, workshops, and process plants
- Inspect work areas and carry out repairs or maintenance as required
Qualifications and Experience Required
- Relevant Trade Certificate in Carpentry
- Valid Light Vehicle Driver’s Licence
- Minimum of three (3) years’ relevant carpentry experience in a mining or construction environment
Required Skills and Competencies
- Knowledge and understanding of carpentry trade protocols and technologies
- Ability to analyse situations and arrive at effective solutions
- Sound understanding of work methods and techniques related to carpentry outputs
- Ability to work at heights
- Basic computer literacy
