The Carnegie Africa Program Fellowship, based in Washington DC, provides analysis and insights on the economic, political, technological, and transnational issues shaping Africa’s future.

The Carnegie Technology and International Affairs Program develops strategies to maximize the positive potential of emerging technologies while reducing risk of large-scale misuse or harm. With Carnegie’s global centers and an office in Silicon Valley, the program collaborates with technologists, corporate leaders, government officials, and scholars globally to understand and prepare for the implications of advances in cyberspace, biotechnology, and artificial intelligence.

Eligibility:

The chosen candidate for the Africa Program Fellowship will have a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience with private sector experience preferred; a graduate degree is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the tech policy and regulatory landscape in Africa, excellent analytical skills including the ability to work with datasets, excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Working knowledge of French is preferred.

Value of Africa Program Fellowship:

The Fellow or Senior Fellow will anchor Carnegie Africa’s work on technology by tracking major trends in digital innovation and regulation in Africa; helping define the research agenda on technology for the Africa Program; producing high-quality analysis that yields policy insights on digital innovation and regulation; and coordinating the program’s public and private dialogue on technology in Africa, including in-country consultations and making selective media appearances.
