Morija Museum and Archives (MMA) is calling on all writers and storytellers to participate in the Reappropriating Lesotho’s Cultural Heritage Through New Media Project and stand a chance to win M 5,000.00 (Five Thousand Maloti). Supported by the Sound Connects Fund, the Project celebrates Basotho music and folklore through research, education, and film.
We hereby invite entries for stories in the style of and inspired by, Lits’omo (Basotho folklore) or an adaptation of a Ts’omo into a modern context. A panel of judges appointed by the MMA shall select one winning story based on the storytelling style, creativity, and social/cultural relevance of the story for today to be adapted for an animated film. The winning story should reflect the richness of Basotho storytelling, myth, and culture.
The story shall thereafter be adapted into a screenplay for a 20-minute animation film. The winning entrant may be consulted from time to time to collaborate with a professional film scriptwriter over a period of six weeks to develop the story into a screenplay for the animation.
Requirements
- Stories should be in Sesotho or English.
- Stories should be between 800 and 1200 words.
- Format – Font Name: Arial, Font Size: 11, Line spacing: 1.5.
- Stories should be original, and unpublished, but only one story per applicant.
- The winner will be awarded M 5 000.
- Applicants are required to enter with their legal name and email.
- Stories may be submitted from 11 March through 27th March at midnight.
Eligibility
This call is open to Basotho / residents of Lesotho over the age of 18 years of age
The winner may be required to be available during the scriptwriting phase (early April till mid-May
2022) for consultations using virtual connections.
Selection Criteria
The story should be adaptable into an animation script.
A panel of judges shall be evaluating the applications from 28th March to 1st April 2022
The winner will be announced on our social media pages on the 4th April 2022
