Be a catalyst for change and ignite hope by joining the Help Lesotho Board of Directors.

Help Lesotho invites mission-driven leaders to join its volunteer Board of Directors at the Annual General Meeting in November 2026. The organisation is a bi-national registered NGO in Canada and Lesotho, dedicated to youth empowerment, mental health, and international development.

As a Board member, you will contribute to shaping an organisation that has engaged, trained, and empowered more than 365,000 individuals in rural communities across Lesotho, creating a critical mass of social change agents.

The organisation is particularly interested in candidates with experience in:

  • International cooperation
  • Fundraising and donor engagement
  • Board governance

About Help Lesotho

Help Lesotho works alongside community leaders to support mental health, gender equity, and leadership development. Programmes are holistic, evidence-informed, and rooted in resilience.

The organisation operates through a grassroots, community-led model, supported by a local Basotho team of 40 staff members, 80% of whom are alumni of its programmes.

Over 21 years, Help Lesotho has:

  • Built programmes grounded in local empowerment and accountability
  • Engaged over 365,000 individuals
  • Trained more than 59,000 graduates, including youth, grandmothers, and community leaders
  • Raised over CAD 30 million from global partners, including UNICEF, GIZ, and UNFPA
  • Been accredited by Imagine Canada since 2014 for accountability and transparency

Role of the Board

The Board provides strategic leadership and governance to ensure the organisation remains mission-driven, financially sustainable, and impactful.

Board members:

  • Provide fiduciary oversight and approve policies aligned with organisational values
  • Help shape and guide strategic direction
  • Contribute expertise, perspectives, and leadership

Board terms are three (3) years, with a maximum of nine (9) years. Executive Officers and Committee Chairs serve two-year terms. Board positions are voluntary and unpaid.

Board Member Expectations

Board members are expected to:

  • Promote and champion Help Lesotho within their networks
  • Attend and actively participate in 5–8 virtual Board meetings per year (Mondays, 12:00–14:00 EST)
  • Participate in an annual full-day Board Retreat (in-person or hybrid)
  • Serve on at least one Board Committee (Finance & Audit, HR, or Governance)
  • Sign a declaration agreeing to fiduciary duties and organisational policies
  • Make an annual financial contribution meaningful to them

While not mandatory, Board members are encouraged to visit Lesotho to experience programme impact firsthand.
