KARABO EA BOPHELO at Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation – Lesotho. The Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation – Lesotho (BCMCFL), is the result of a public-private partnership between Baylor College of Medicine International Pediatric AIDS Initiative and the Government of Lesotho, and is a legal, non-profit/tax exempt organization registered in Lesotho. BCMCFL provides free pediatric and family-centred HIV and tuberculosis prevention, care, treatment, and support, serving thousands of children and families affected by HIV, TB, or other child health conditions. Karabo ea Bophelo (KB) is a five-year USAID-funded activity to prevent new HIV infections and reduce vulnerability among orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) and adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) in Lesotho.

BCMCFL is looking for highly qualified local candidates to fill in the following position available under Karabo ea Bophelo Project on a full-time, Special Contract basis for a period of 12 Months-Non-Renewable.

Duties and Responsibilities

Position Overview

The COVID-19 Vaccine Demand Creation Agent will be responsible for supporting the social and community mobilization activities of the project which contribute to project implementation. The main purpose of this position is to create demand for COVID_19 vaccine across all KB community implementation sites. The Demand Creation Agent will also collaborate with other initiatives that improve the lives of AGYW, OVC and their Caregivers.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Work closely with village health workers, community leaders, religious leaders, and other district stakeholders to accelerate COVID-19 vaccine demand creation activities.
  • Conduct COVID-19 vaccine demand creation direct service delivery, including, health talks, and community dialogues in relevant catchment areas.
  • Ensure supply and distribution of IEC materials on a continuous basis to project beneficiaries and other community members.
  • Support the project to create demand for COVID-19 vaccine using different platforms (e.g. Community gatherings, radio shows, outreaches, social media, door to door etc.).
  • Collect and collate data related to COVID_19 vaccine uptake daily and submit to the supervisor.
  • Support and collaborate with other field cadres in monitoring of COVID_19 vaccine messaging at community level. Dispel myths on COVID-19 vaccines.
  • Assist to organize and implement COVID-19 vaccine demand creation service days/outreaches and referrals for vaccination.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Management.

Educational Qualifications, Work Experience and Key Competencies

  • Completion of LGCSE/Form E/COSC.
  • One year work experience on PEPFAR Community Development Program will be an added advantage Participation in DREAMS would be an added advantage
  • Fluency in Sesotho and English.
  • Basic computer skills would be an added advantage
  • Flexibility to work after normal working hours and on weekends where necessary

Key Competencies and Skills

  • Excellent verbal, written interpersonal and presentation skills in English and Sesotho.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Flexibility to work after normal working hours and on weekends with significant travel outside of duty station.
