Purpose

In order to increase our effectiveness in helping people improve their lives through learning, we are looking for a shuttle bus driver at the Pearson Institute, to fulfil the transport function and to support operational and facilities activities by striving for transactional excellence. This will include maintenance support, caretaking, security and receptionist duties as well as Occupational Health and Safety responsibilities.

Primary Responsibility

+ Keep the shuttle bus in peak operational performance and meets all required standards.

+ Keep the bus clean and presentable at all times.

+ Maintain order on the bus at all times and do not permit passengers to behave in any manner that jeopardises their or other people’s safety or brings the name of the institution into disrepute.

+ Pick up and drop off passengers at designated locations, following planned routes and schedules as determined from time to time.

+ Assist disabled passengers get on and off the bus.

+ Obey all traffic laws and road regulations.

+ Follow procedures to make sure that passengers are kept safe at all times.

General Administration

+ Maintain accurate records relating to the transportation of passengers and maintenance of the vehicle.

+ Support general facilities administration tasks as may be required from time to time.

+ Assist with printing, laminating and placement of notices on noticeboards.

+ Assist in co-ordinating maintenance activities on site.

+ General venue inspections with regard to security and occupational health & safety compliance.

+ Assist with incident reporting.

+ Assist in Occupational Health & Safety activities.

Operational Support

+ Assist with frontline and other operational duties as requested i.e. relief receptionist, courier / driver administration.

+ Review stock levels at regular intervals e.g. Stationery, Paper, Consumables etc.

+ Assist in submitting replenishment orders to procurement.

+ Assist in locking and unlocking of buildings, setting of burglar alarms as well as continuous checking of venues.

+ Assist in ensuring that venues are operationally ready for lectures e.g. Lights, Projectors and Air-conditioners in working condition etc.

Risk and Compliance Administration

+ Update and monitor fire fighting equipment inspection matrix and notify site representatives that inspection is pending.

+ Maintain the stock in the first aid room and kits.

+ Maintain a record of all health and safety appointments and certification, notify Facilities Lead of pending renewals.

Core competencies

+ Understanding of the Road Traffic regulations as applicable to passenger transportation

+ Act in a proactive and solutions focused manner to solve challenges

+ Basic understanding of the OHSA

Security and Safeguarding

+ Assist in liaising with security provider, e.g. OB register / book to be checked regularly

+ Identify potential risks and report it to Facility Lead

General

+ High attention to detail, with a risk, security and safeguarding mind set.

+ Must be able to work independently and cope with rearranged priorities.

+ Position requires interaction with all stakeholders and therefore a friendly and courteous attitude at all times.

+ May be required to work outside of normal working hours from time to time as well as a minimum of one Saturday a month.

Experience

+ At least 3 years’ experience in a similar role.

**Qualifications**

Code C1 drivers licence and holder of Professional Driver Permit.
