Overview of position:

  • CTG is looking to expand its Bid Team with a skilled & experienced Bid Writer. The office is currently located in Newlands, Cape Town & consists of 7 people within marketing & bid management. The team is in constant liaison with our head offices in Dubai as well as our local entities in mainly the Middle East & Africa.
  • The bid team is managed by the Bid Manager, who is responsible for the compilation of all proposals with the goal of winning new contracts in any of our countries of operation. This entails researching, preparing, writing, managing & submitting all necessary information required by clients or potential business associates, playing a key role in winning new contracts for the company.
  • The Bid Writer will report to the Bid Manager, who will continuously support your development through sharing of the best practice writing & project management techniques.

Role objectives:
This role will form part of the bid team & the wider business development team & support with professional writing of proposals in response to client requests. The role will consist of the following:

  • Together with the Bid Manager respond to client requests within defined deadlines & to the high level of quality expected by the company.
  • Source information from the bid library & tailor the information to meet the clients’ requirements & expectations.
  • Gather & coordinate information from subject matter experts, business development & operational teams & rewrite into persuasive proposal sections.
  • Write proposal texts using professional & persuasive writing skills.
  • Identify where e.g. infographics could strengthen the proposal & contribute to the development of these together with the Graphic Designer.
  • Manage the writing process for the proposals throughout its full lifecycle.
  • Together with the Bid Manager ensure proposals are fully compliant with the client’s requirements.
  • Ensure proposal documentation is formatted, collated & presented in a professional manner & according to the company’s templates & branding guidelines.
  • Maintain & update the bid library of content, acting as a content owner & creator together with the subject matter experts & operational teams.
  • Support any other requirements of the wider business development team, e.g. creation of capability statements, communications on progress, or any other written work.

Project reporting:

  • This role is reporting to the Bid Manager.

Key competencies:
We are looking for someone with relevant experience in proposal writing & development or similar, preferably with experience from or an understanding of the humanitarian & development sectors. Over time & for the right person, this role might develop to include more responsibilities including managing bid projects from start to finish. Required experience & key competencies to be successful in this role include:

  • University Degree in relevant field.
  • 5+ years working experience in professional writing or copy editing, preferably in a sales environment.
  • Fluent in spoken & written corporate English, French would be an additional advantage.
  • Outstanding Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint skills.
  • Strong communication skills & capacity to develop key proposal texts.
  • Strong editing & proofreading skills.
  • Capacity to work in a flexible way, often within very short timeframes.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • The ability to work within a deadline driven environment.
  • Highly motivated & committed with a proven ability to work as part of a team.
  • Creative with the ability to take own initiative.
  • Experience & / or understanding of the humanitarian & development sector is an advantage.

Team management:

  • No team management experience required for this role.
