Bank Supervisor

Role: To carry out detailed analysis and/or on-site examination on banks in order to ascertain the financial soundness, including compliance and the adequacy of risk management systems; to identify problems/ weaknesses in banks and initiate prompt corrective action.

Areas of responsibility include:

  • Contributing to policy reviews.
  • Contributing on the annual plan in line with the overall objectives of the Division and Department and keep management abreast of all developments pertaining to banking industry.

The Candidate will be required to:

  • Participate in the conduct of on-site examinations (including planning of the examinations) of banks, ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and prepares report of findings that render a complete, concise and factual presentation of the bank’s affairs and condition.
  • Identify problems/weaknesses, unsafe and unsound practices, and violations of laws and regulations on a continual basis that may affect the condition and soundness of banks and initiate prompt corrective measures to address such weaknesses or violation.
  • Participate in the periodic review of supervisory tools e.g. banking laws, rules, regulations, examination procedure manual, etc. and initiate response to queries relating to the interpretation of the banking legislation and directives to returns.
  • Participate in the conduct of investigation of illegal banking or pyramid scheme business activities and to recommend appropriate actions.
  • Compile statistical information for dissemination to the regional group of banking supervisors SADC, the Basle Committee on Banking Supervision, IMF, World Bank, etc.
  • Produce reports in relation to area of focus and other assigned functions.
  • Perform other assignments as the needs of the Division dictate.

All candidates wishing to apply should have the above stated behavioral competences and the following minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce /BA Economics/BA Accounting/General Accountant/ International Banking, Finance, Risk and Regulation.
  • A minimum of at least two (2) years working experience in banking, finance, regulation or audit.
