**Wellness and Safeguarding Coordinator**

Pearson Institute of Higher Education (PIHE) is a private higher education institution striving to be recognized for quality education through our commitment to high standards of teaching and learning, enhancing academic success, and ensuring a well-rounded student experience. The National Wellness & Safeguarding Coordinator contributes to this goal by implementing, managing and executing the national PIHE wellness and safeguarding program.

The respective role player is responsible for wellness and safeguarding at all the PIHE campuses, liaises with the person responsible for wellness and safeguarding at a respective campus, while (s) he reports directly to the Head of Student Support. The incumbent is a strong academic leader with extensive knowledge, experience and understanding of the private higher education environment and legislative framework in South Africa, re safeguarding and wellness.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

Due to nature and size of the organization and the nature of the position, it is not possible to provide a complete list of responsibilities that will be all inclusive over time. Responsibilities may change from time to time due to the operational requirements of the institution or the position.

**KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS: **

**National Wellness Coordinator**

The National Wellness Coordinator will in accordance with the Student Experience office:

+ Support the Head of Student Support to develop and implement wellness and safeguarding policies, frameworks, processes and projects nationally

+ The Wellness & Safeguarding will be responsible for the planning, coordination and the implementation of Wellness & Safeguarding operations at a national level

+ The National Wellness & Safeguarding Coordinator will be responsible for the design, coordination, and supervision of wellness and safeguarding programs for faculty, staff, and students;

+ Monitor the department’s/programme budget,

+ Be responsible for the administration and monitoring of the institution’s safeguarding and wellness referral and reporting systems

+ Represent the institution positively and effectively in all dealings with external partners, parents, stakeholders and agencies

+ To support students to develop their personal social and emotional capabilities and ensure that students feel confident to report safeguarding and or wellness concerns

+ Contribute to the development and maintenance of a positive safeguarding culture that embeds the institution’s values and beliefs, and ensures that students feel valued, safe and supported

+ Acts as a liaison to vendors and suppliers re: wellness and safeguarding

+ Promote and communicate all wellness and safeguarding programs to all staff and students.

+ Monitor and track the impact of wellness and safeguarding programmes on the higher education student journey at PIHE

+ Coordinate all wellness and safeguarding programmes at PIHE

+ Report to the Head of Student Support on all wellness and safeguarding projects and processes

+ Promote safeguarding and wellness awareness programmes on all communication platforms

**COMPETENCIES**

**Personal competencies: **

+ Excellent communication (written, presentation and verbal) and interpersonal skills, together with the ability to work collaboratively and courteously with colleagues throughout Pearson.

+ Highly effective planning, time management, scheduling and follow-through skills required in order coordinate and implement safeguarding and wellness programs and events.

+ Must be an organized individual with sound administrative skills and a capacity to meet deadlines.

+ Must be a self-starter and take initiative, with a high level of motivation and commitment to excellence.

+ Must be able to work occasional overtime.

**Technical/computer expertise: **

+ Fully computer literate with an extensive knowledge and skills in:

+ MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Gmail, Windows applications.

+ Ability to use cloud-based e-mail, documents and Google Hangouts and to create podcasts.

+ Excellent understanding of current technologies and the use and application for internal and external processes.

+ Demonstrable data management skills.

**Functional expertise: **

+ Strategic ability appropriate to private higher education in South Africa.

+ Ability to apply knowledge of higher education legislation and regulations in South Africa in order to ensure that PIHE is accountable, compliant and able to provide accurate useful reporting to relevant legislative bodies.

+ Project management experience.

**Qualifications**

+ Bachelor of Arts in Psychology or BPsych

+ Honours degree in the relevant field will be an advantage
