SOS Children’s Villages Lesotho is a child focus organization and an affiliate of SOS Children Villages International. It is non-governmental, non-political, non-denominational, and non-racial organization. Its overall mission is to build families for children in need, help them shape their own futures and participate in the development of their communities. To realize the mission of the organization, SOS CV Lesotho has established four (4) locations and/or duty stations, the National Coordinating Office, Maseru Programme Location, Quthing Programme Location and the Youth Empowerment and Entrepreneurship Training (YEET) project located in Leribe. The main goal of the YEET project is to empower young people by capacitating them with entrepreneurship skills to enhance their independence as future leaders.
To ensure successful achievement of the project goals and objectives and the organization mission, SOS Children’s Village Lesotho is recruiting, and applications are invited from suitably qualified local candidates for the following position(s):

Main Duties
1. Act as an Assistant to SOS Mothers
1.1 Work together with the SOS Mother as a team for the best interests of the children.
1.2 Be fully aware of the responsibilities of an SOS Mother and replace the SOS Mother whenever she is absent from the Family Home. During the Mother’s leave or other days off from the Village, live in the Family Home and perform all of the Mother’s functions.
2. Assist the SOS Mother in Ensuring the Well-Being of the Children
2.1 Be sensitive to and understanding of the needs of the children.
2.2 Assist the Mother in ensuring the physical, emotional, intellectual, social, and spiritual well-being of the child.
2.3 Know and support the rights and responsibilities of a child.
2.4 Spend quality time with each individual child, as agreed in the assigned household.
2.5 Use appropriate parenting skills for each child’s development.
3. Support the SOS Mother in Guiding the Children to Take Responsibility
3.1 Help to ensure that the children complete the tasks assigned to them.
3.2 Allow the children to solve their own problems where appropriate.
3.3 Encourage further education and training.
4. Assist the SOS Mother with Household Tasks
4.1 Assist the SOS Mother in carrying out all household tasks so that the household is maintained in excellent condition and quality time is available for the children.
4.2 Learn how to correctly use and care for household equipment and appliances.
4.3 Support the Mother in training the children to assist with household chores.
4.4 Maintain a high standard of safety.
4.5 Discuss any plans and problems with the Mother and/or the Village Father.
5. Be an Aunt to the Village Children
5.1 Show healthy affection to the children.
5.2 Be available to the children, offering advice, guidance, and support through difficult times in their lives.
5.3 Practise basic life and communication skills, such as conflict management, self-esteem building, and relationship building.
5.4 Provide a positive role model for the children. Behave in an exemplary manner.
6. Develop Her Own Personal Well-Being
6.1 Maintain personal physical fitness and a healthy, energetic body to perform duties and tasks with minimal stress.
6.2 Maintain mental, social, intellectual, and spiritual well-being.
6.3 Take responsibility for actions, attitude, behaviour, and ongoing development.
6.4 Maintain a balanced life.
7. Mix with and Contribute to the Community
7.1 Create opportunities to integrate herself and the children into the surrounding community.
7.2 Be familiar with local cultures.
7.3 Be an active and contributing member of the Village community and the Village staff team.
8. Understand the SOS Organisation
8.1 Become familiar with the background, philosophy, principles, policies, and structure of the SOS organisation.
8.2 Understand the different roles of the SOS staff team members.
8.3 Be ready to share the SOS story with visitors, guests, and other interested persons.
8.4 Partake in and take a lead role in fundraising activities.
Job Specifications/Qualifications
9.1 Certificate in Early Childhood Education or an equivalent qualification.
9.2 One to two years’ work experience in childcare facilities.
9.3 Knowledge of child protection laws and regulations.
