Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
- PhD in Soil Science, with specialization in soil and water management and/or applied fields such as hydrology and irrigation management
- Demonstrated ability to develop viable research proposals and secure extramural grants
- Proven academic leadership skills
- Experience in developing teaching and learning programmes
- Demonstrated success in supervising and mentoring postgraduate students
Duties and Responsibilities
- Advise undergraduate and postgraduate students in directed research and thesis work
- Pursue extramural grants and contracts from public and private sources to fund research in soil science, climate change, agriculture, and environmental issues
- Mentor academic staff in research and publication
- Initiate, conduct, and supervise research within areas of specialization
- Contribute to departmental, faculty, and university governance and academic activities
Work Experience
- Teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- Proven record as an effective teacher and mentor in areas including:
- Basic Pedology
- Soil Ecology and Biogeochemistry
- Waste Management
- Land Tillage and Agricultural Water Management
- Soil Physics and Ecoclimatology
- Soil Erosion and Sediment Control (particularly in Lesotho watershed ecosystems)
- Research experience demonstrated through publications in scholarly journals
- Experience leading or participating in international research, education, or development projects
Remuneration
The University offers salaries and benefits commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Employment Type
- Permanent and pensionable/gratuitous terms for local candidates
- Two-year contract for non-local candidates, with the possibility of renewal
