POSITION: Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer in Demography or Population Studies

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:
- Level Minimum Qualifications Experience Publications
- Associate Professor Ph.D. in Demography or Population Studies or a closely related field. 10+ years’ university-level teaching experience in Demography or Population Studies. 10+ journal articles published in accredited journals with reputable publishers.
- Senior Lecturer Ph.D. in Demography or Population Studies or a closely related field. 6+ years of tertiary-level teaching experience in Demography or Population Studies. 6+ journal articles published in accredited journals with reputable publishers.
- Lecturer At least Masters in Demography or Population Studies or a closely related field (locals only). 2+ years of tertiary-level teaching experience. 3+ journal articles published in accredited journals with reputable publishers.
- Common Proficiency in relevant statistical software packages (e.g., R, Python, SAS, SPSS, STATA) (for all levels). Proven record of mentoring and supervising junior academic staff or students (for all levels). Strong and sustained record of research and scholarly publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals (for all levels).
Duties and Responsibilities (Common to all levels)
- Deliver high-quality, engaging teaching in Demography and Population Studies at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, utilising innovative pedagogical approaches.
- Conduct research in your area of specialisation, contributing to the body of knowledge in Demography and Population Studies, and actively seeking external funding opportunities. (Note: The Associate Professor level is expected to be leading and conducting “cutting-edge” research).
- Provide comprehensive mentorship and supervision to undergraduate research projects, Master’s (M.A.) dissertations, and Ph.D. theses, fostering the next generation of demographers and population scholars.
- Actively contribute to programme and curriculum development within the Department, ensuring the relevance and quality of academic offerings.
- Engage meaningfully with the community through outreach programmes, public lectures, policy briefs, and other activities that leverage expertise to address societal challenges.
- Participate in the strategic development and growth of the Department, Faculty of Social Sciences, and the University, including participation in committees and institutional initiatives.
- Undertake additional academic and administrative duties as assigned by the Head of Department or Dean of the Faculty.
Remuneration:
The University offers salaries and benefits commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Employment type
Permanent and pensionable/gratuitable terms for Locals, and Two Years Contract for Non-Locals with a possibility of renewal.
