Position Summary
AHF is seeking a dynamic, strategic, and results-oriented Associate Director of Marketing to lead the Africa Bureau’s marketing agenda.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Africa Bureau Chief, Deputy Bureau Chief, and Global Advocacy, Marketing, Policy and Operations teams to develop and implement impactful marketing, communications, and media strategies across the Africa Bureau.
This role offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced marketing leader to strengthen brand visibility, increase stakeholder engagement, and support AHF’s mission of improving access to HIV/STI prevention, treatment, and care throughout Africa.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Marketing Leadership
- Develop and execute integrated marketing strategies aligned with organisational goals and growth objectives
- Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of bureau-wide marketing plans
- Collaborate with Medical, Prevention, Advocacy, and Programme teams to strengthen AHF’s profile and impact
- Support country-specific marketing initiatives while ensuring alignment with regional and global strategies
Campaign Development and Content Management
Lead high-impact marketing campaigns across:
- Digital marketing
- Social media
- Print and traditional media
- Events and community engagement
- Advocacy and partnership platforms
Additional responsibilities include:
- Driving audience engagement and behaviour change through targeted communications
- Developing impactful marketing content and campaigns
Digital and Performance Marketing
Oversee digital marketing initiatives, including:
- SEO and SEM strategies
- Email marketing automation
- Paid media campaigns
- Marketing analytics and performance tracking
Additional responsibilities:
- Utilise data-driven insights to optimise campaigns
- Measure and demonstrate return on investment (ROI)
Brand and Communications Management
- Ensure consistent application of AHF’s brand identity and messaging across all platforms
- Lead advertising, promotions, media relations, and public relations activities
- Oversee the development of marketing collateral, publications, reports, newsletters, and promotional materials
Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships
Build and maintain productive relationships with:
- Internal leadership teams
- External agencies and service providers
- Media houses and journalists
- Community organisations and partners
Additional responsibilities:
- Enhance AHF’s visibility and influence through strategic partnerships and collaborations
Financial and Operational Management
- Support annual marketing budget planning and forecasting
- Monitor marketing expenditure and ensure efficient utilisation of resources
- Identify risks and provide timely reporting on critical issues
Leadership and Team Management
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and performance management for marketing teams
- Foster innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Lead marketing transformation initiatives across a dynamic multi-country environment
Required Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must possess:
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field
- Master’s degree or MBA will be an added advantage
- A minimum of 8–12 years of progressive marketing experience
- At least 3–5 years in a senior leadership or strategic marketing management role
- Proven experience delivering successful multi-channel marketing campaigns across diverse markets
- Strong expertise in:
- Digital marketing
- Marketing analytics
- Brand management
- Communications
- Stakeholder engagement
- Demonstrated experience managing budgets, vendors, and ROI-driven marketing initiatives
